Miami Hurricanes to get weekend visit from portal DT that was a first team All-Conference selection in 2022

You may not have heard of Butte College in Oroville, Calif. But you’ve probably heard of NFL QB Aaron Rodgers, and yes that was his junior college. Now the Miami Hurricanes are targeting a tight end from the program, Connor Gilbreath.

But Miami and other programs covet Gilbreath as a 6-6, 255-pound blocker – that’s how his JUCO team used him, even lining him up as a fullback. He’s agile for his size and strong, benching 405 pounds.

It’s expected Gilbreath will transition to the offensive line when he finds his future home.

Others high on Gilbreath’s radar are Washington and Wyoming.

Miami has offered, and CaneSport confirmed with Gilbreath today that he’s set up his UM visit for the final weekend this month. He says it’s the first and only visit he has set up so far.

Gilbreath would be a December signee for Miami.

“100% taking a visit the 27th – should give me more of a solid answer there (for where Miami stands),” Gilbreath said.

Gilbreath initially signed out of University Prep School in Redding, Calif. with the NAIA’s Southern Oregon before attending Butte College. As for his eligibility? Gilbreath currently has four years to play three.

Watch his highlights below and you will see a tight end attached to the line that works essentially as an extra tackle and just mauls guys down the field:

CaneSport’s take

Miami is looking for all the offensive line help it can get moving forward, and Gilbreath has all the tools to be an outstanding future lineman. He would be able to come in as an early enrollee next year and compete right away for a job assuming he picks up the nuances of what Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal want technique-wise. He possesses all the physical tools, and tight ends becoming offensive linemen are nothing new at Miami (Eric Winston is a prime example).
