Lucky Charms: Notes, thoughts on five-star Notre Dame DL target Justin Scott

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

*** There have been a couple of articles on five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott at On3 this week, including one from Blue & Gold’s Kyle Kelly. Make sure to read that here. In a report from On3’s Chad Simmons Monday, the elite prospect from Chicago St. Ignatius revealed that Georgia (June 2), Michigan (June 9), Miami (June 16), Ohio State (June 23) and Notre Dame are the five lead schools in his recruitment. Those are the official visit dates set for Scott thus far; he’s unsure if he’ll use one with Notre Dame considering how close South Bend is to home.

“It is an easy trip for me and my family to Notre Dame, so I may not take an official visit there,” Scott told Simmons. “I can get there easily and I already know a lot about them. The coaches know me and my family. I feel good on campus and they have a lot that I like.

“Coach Chad Bowden, Coach Marcus Freeman, Coach Al Washington – they all make me and my family feel at home. I know I am a priority for them and I can go there any time.”

Interestingly enough, Simmons’ report notes that there are “two schools he ranks higher than the others” and my best guess is that those schools are Miami and Notre Dame. However, who may have the lead at this point seems irrelevant because a lot can change with his official visits. Georgia seems like a major X-factor for Scott, who ranks as the nation’s No. 11 player and No. 3 defensive lineman per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

It’s tough to predict this recruitment, but I still believe the Irish are the favorites to eventually land his recruitment.

*** From what I’ve gathered on Lufkin (Texas) High running back Kedren Young, he seems like a different type of kid, and that’s usually a good thing for Notre Dame. Young has offers from the likes of Texas A&M, Michigan, Miami and Oklahoma State, and where did he take his first official visit? UTSA this past weekend. And he has official visits lined up with Notre Dame for June 2 and Texas Tech the following weekend.

The vibe I get here is that Young, the No. 178 overall recruit and No. 13 running back per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, doesn’t care so much about the glitz and glamour about some of these schools and the longstanding relationships are what’s most important to him. This bodes well for Notre Dame. I’m liking where the Irish are at for him, and sources on the ND side of things do as well.

*** On3’s Sam Spiegelman had the scoop Monday that Destrehan (La.) High’s Anthony Robinson, the No. 470 overall player and No. 46 safety nationally per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, will visit Notre Dame during the first weekend of June. Notre Dame has yet to offer Robinson yet, but new special teams coordinator Marty Biagi has a prior relationship with the three-star recruit, and safeties coach Chris O’Leary and defensive coordinator Al Golden are regularly in contact now.

I’m guessing that Robinson will participate in Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp that day, and the staff may offer him if he impresses.
