Hurricanes offer 2025 4-star TE Ryan Ghea, join bevy of blue bloods in pursuit of Miami prospect

Miami’s offer meant a lot to Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton 2025 four-star receiver Ryan Ghea, the No. 12 tight end in the On3 Industry Ranking, who was born in the city.

So it’s safe to say the Hurricanes captured his interest when tight ends coach Cody Woodiel offered him on a phone call late last week.

“I was excited of course, and then I asked my dad about possibly getting there in the summer,” Ghea said. “I am interested; it’s just still early for me only being a sophomore.”

Ghea has already racked up interest from more than two dozen programs including Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas, Penn State and Florida State, among others. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Ole Miss as the early favorite with a 14.2% chance ahead of Georgia Tech (8.4%), Tennessee (7.2%) and seven other programs with an estimated 6% chance.

Ghea said it’s too early for him to determine a list of favorite schools but is continuing to hear from the programs that have offered him. Woodiel told Ghea the Hurricanes love his 6-foot-5, 228-pound frame and his physical playing style.

Woodiel also dropped by Milton’s high school this past Tuesday morning to watch the team’s workout as he made his way through Georgia. Woodiel visited Grayson High School, the home of 2024 four-star tight end Kylan Fox and fast-rising 2026 EDGE Tyler Atkinson, Monday before continuing through Georgia on his first week on the road during the evaluation period.

Ghea added he also has plenty to like about Miami.

“I like Miami, the city, as a whole, and I love how they use the tight end position and how they put tight ends in the league,” Ghea said. “I want a good education. I want a family feel. I want a good tight end school that will develop me and a school who puts tight ends in the league.

The four-star prospect is yet to set any summer visits but knows he’ll be at Miami. He feels continuing to build his relationship with the Hurricanes’ coaching staff could help raise his interest level in the Canes.

Ghea has taken four visits to Clemson; three to Ole Miss; and two each to Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Florida State, Auburn, Ohio State, Penn State and NC State.

CaneSport’s Take

While Miami’s coaches have dropped in to check up on priority 2024 targets during the recruiting cycle, we’re seeing the staff also use its first week on the road of the evaluation period to send out more offers to underclass prospects. It’s clearly a proactive move by the staff to hit the ground running Sept. 1 when contact with 2025 prospects will increase.
