How it Happened: Tennessee run-rules Mississippi State to cap weekend sweep, 13-2
Tennessee made quick work of Mississippi State for its sixth run-rule victory of the season as the Vols hammered the Bulldogs 13-2 in seven innings to complete the three-game weekend sweep in Southeastern Conference play.
Tony Vitello’s club plated six runs in the first and three more in the second to jump out to an early 9-1 and never looked back. The Vols (30-14, 11-10 SEC) move above .500 in conference play for the first time this season and extend their current win-streak to seven games. Mississippi State (24-20, 6-15 SEC) managed just two runs on three hits while Tennessee pounded out 13 runs off 13 hits.
Drew Beam (6-2) picked up the win after throwing the complete seven innings in the run-rule victory, allowing just two runs (one earned) off two hits with six strikeouts in the victory. Jurrangelo Cijntje (3-3) took home the loss after throwing just an inning-plus and allowing six runs on three hits with four walks.
Tennessee will take on Wofford in the midweek before traveling to Athens for a weekend against the Bulldogs, but first, how did this one happen for the Vols?
