LSU makes contact with Dallas forward who stands out in Adidas 3SSB

Nearly the entire “coaches section” row of seating was filled on Saturday afternoon as Southern Assault faced Upward Stars in the Adidas 3SSB AAU tournament in Bryan Texas. With plenty of eyes on this afternoon’s game, 2024 prospect Nicolas Codie was the best player on the court.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Carrollton, Texas has had a summer to remember and it has continued this weekend. Codie’s Southern Assault team won 68-43 in their first game on Saturday and Codie filled up the stat sheet on both ends.

“The last game we played we really came together as a team and it was a really good win,” Codie said. “I did pretty good on defense, disrupting shots and staying in front of my man. On the offensive end, I got into the paint, got a couple and-ones, went 100 percent from the free throw line and I got a lot of rebounds.”

Both On3 and 247 have Codie as an 86 rated player, firmly in the three-star range.

He continues to round out his game and further bulk up, but at this moment, Codie is one of the standouts of the Adidas Circuit and his stock is soaring as a recruit.

“My defense has improved a lot,” Codie said. “I feel more comfortable on offense and finishing around the rim with my touch. I’m playing way better this year. My recruiting has picked up. There are a couple of schools contacting me lately because I had a good weekend last week. It’s kind of blowing up.”

Codie has received offers from Texas Tech, SMU, North Texas, UT Arlington, TCU, and other Texas schools, but now LSU is beginning to make its push. The Tigers have not offered yet, but Matt McMahon and assistant coach Casey Long were in attendance for his games on Saturday.

As the coaching staff turns its attention from the transfer portal to the 2024 class, Codie stands out as someone they want to gain ground on early as he continues to get better.

“I’ve been talking to LSU a lot recently. Coach Hamilton always reaches out to me. We’re trying to set up a visit [this summer]. Yea I have a really good relationship with LSU.”
