Blue Chips: Michigan staff sees top targets on the recruiting trail
*** Michigan offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore was in the Lone Star State today and swung by to see On300 commit Blake Frazier, who picked the Wolverines earlier this month. Frazier is obviously locked in with his pledge and has been a big vocal recruiter. While in the Austin-area, Moore also stopped by to see On300 Copperas Cove (Texas) High tackle Michael Uini, who visited this winter. Numbers are getting tight along the offensive line this cycle. However, Uini is one of the country’s best tackles and is still high on the Wolverines. Uini actually has an OV locked in with the Wolverines for June 16. He is also high on schools like Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia and Texas. Frazier is involved in helping recruit Uini to Michigan.
*** Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome has his two tight ends committed this cycle and is assisting Moore with offensive line recruiting. Newsome was also down in the Lone Star State today as he made multiple stops in the Dallas-area, including Frisco (Texas) Reedy, which is home to On300 offensive lineman Max Anderson. Michigan remains the team to beat for Anderson heading into his official visit this June. Both Moore and Newsome are working hard here, while guys like Frazier and Ben Roebuck have been peer recruiting. Anderson did make a recent visit to Georgia, and other programs like Oklahoma, where his older brother plays, and Tennessee are still actively involved.
*** Michigan co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach Steve Clinkscale has been touring around Florida this week and stopped by Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna to see Top 100 safety target Zaquan Patterson and Top 100 2025 U-M cornerback commit Chris Ewald. Michigan recently made the Top 5 for Patterson, and the Wolverines are continuing to surge in this recruitment. While Miami may have a slight edge, Michigan will have every opportunity to change that on his official visit. Clinkscale is doing a phenomenal job of recruiting him. Ewald remains happy with his early pledge to the Wolverines and is also working hard to recruit Patterson to Ann Arbor.
*** Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy is also making the rounds around Florida this week and stopped by to see four-star Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day wide receiver Bredell Richardson. As I mentioned over the weekend, Richardson is a top target for Michigan this cycle and is planning to make an official visit in June. Richardson appears to be higher of a few other programs like Notre Dame and LSU. However, Bellamy is building a strong relationship here, and the Wolverines are getting a boost from quarterback commit Jadyn Davis, who has played some club 7v7 with Richardson this offseason.
