From as early as he can remember, Miami Hurricane basketball signee, Kyshawn George has always had a basketball in his hands. From the beginning of his basketball journey in Switzerland to moving to France at 15-years-old and now gearing up for a move to Coral Gables, basketball has taken George across the globe, and he is ready for his next chapter as a Hurricane.

“I’ve had a basketball in my hands since I was born, basically,” George said. “Four years ago I got recruited to Elan Chalon here in France, which is like a better structure than when I was in Switzerland, so it allowed me to pick my game up and help me make it to where I am now.”

George, a 19-year-old Swiss guard who played for both Elan Chalon’s U21 and professional clubs, is no stranger to high-level competition. This past season, George averaged 17.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.4 steals with the U21 squad.

This week he goes Inside The Lines with CaneSport as we discuss everything from his commitment to Miami, to his near 10-inch growth spurt, and his relationship with Hurricanes head coach Jim Larrañaga and much more.

During his time with Elan Chalon’s club, George averaged 2.9 points in 16 games, and he is ready to bring what he learned from playing against older competition and even former NBA talent to Miami this season.

“Just like experience,” George said he learned the most from playing in France. “I try to listen to all the tips and the experience that they have. I played with guys that played in the NBA that are now playing here and have had big careers. I just try to get a lot of tips on recognizing situations and just figuring things out.”

George, who was announced by the Hurricanes as a signee apart of their 2023 recruiting class on April 20, described himself as a guard who loves to score but also will not hesitate to get his teammates involved as well.

“Obviously I like to score, but I always try to make the right play for the team every time that I’m down on the floor,” George said. “I try to find the open man on the floor or create my shot when I have to take an important shot for the team. Just trying to get my teammates involved as much as possible and making the right play every time down the court.”

When asked who he modeled his game after or tried to emulate in the NBA, George named the former University of Kentucky and current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as someone he would compare himself to.

“I just try to pick something from everyone and see what everyone is good at and try to add it to my game,” George said. “I find Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (as someone I compare myself to). He has kind of the same body type as me. He’s long and lanky, and I like the way his bag is deep.”
