Latest intel on On300 Michigan QB target Ryan Montgomery

The Wolverine made the drive to Massillon, Ohio, on Sunday for the Elite 11 Regionals that featured On300 Findlay (Ohio) High quarterback and key Michigan target Ryan Montgomery.

Further evidence of the priority Montgomery is for Michigan in the 2025 class came earlier this week when quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell visited Montgomery’s school to meet with the sophomore’s coaching staff.

Campbell was the first college coach at the Power 5 level to make his appearance at Findlay High to begin the spring evaluation period, continuing his efforts to make Montgomery, his family and his mentors of greater importance this offseason.

In the three months that Campbell has been on staff after he replaced departed Matt Weiss, the persona of enthusiasm and genuine care that the former has shown either on the phone or face-to-face has brought increased interest in Michigan for Montgomery and his loved ones.

Even though college personnel are unable to speak directly to perspective recruits when they are on the road during the evaluation period, Campbell has gone to great lengths to stay connected with Montgomery and his family. Before the industry four-star pocket passer returned to Ann Arbor last month to watch spring practice, both sides were and still are exchanging calls at least once a week.

Montgomery checked out two games at The Big House this past year, making the drive to see the wins against Penn State and Michigan State. Proximity to the campus from his hometown has allowed the 6-foot-3 and 210-pounder to schedule visits without difficulty, which is why one of the first places that he visited to begin the spring was at Michigan.

The character of Campbell in person is exactly what was experienced when formal introductions were made over the phone for Montgomery, who has also witnessed first-hand the way Michigan’s rostered quarterbacks respond to Campbell’s philosophies in a positive manner. Specifically with JJ McCarthy, Montgomery is firm on the fact that the McCarthy will have a Heisman Trophy candidate campaign this upcoming season.

On his March visit, Montgomery was told by Campbell that the offense will be opened more with the passing game, something that he’s excited to monitor on future returns.

Campbell has also relayed the message more than once that the No. 11 ranked quarterback in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, is a top priority and the feeling is mutual from Montgomery. He hasn’t released a top schools list publicly but it’s safe to say that Michigan is in a small category at the top of the leaderboard.

Montgomery has wrapped up his collection of spring visits, which included a return to Ohio State for its spring game. He does plan to attend Michigan’s annual July BBQ at the Big House where more face-to-face discussion with Campbell, as well as head coach Jim Harbaugh, will be the plan.
