Solomon Thomas on UGA: ‘You become great, whether you want it or not’

Georgia football has already had one highly successful Solomon from Jacksonville, Florida’s Raines High School in New York Giants guard Solomon Kindley. Could 2025 offensive lineman Solomon Thomas be the next?

He spent last weekend checking out Athens in-depth during the annual G-Day spring scrimmage.

“I got down there a couple months ago, but this was my first time getting the real feel and love of Georgia. First off, we went to the back of the baseball field, and there were some SUVs and buses there to pick me and my family up,” he said. “They took us to the field first. We got to there and checked in, and they weighed me in and then ate. I was supposed to have a meeting with Coach [Stacy] Searels before the game and Coach [Kirby] Smart, too. We got there a little later than expected, though, so they pushed it back after the game.”

When the meeting did take place, however, Kirby Smart was quick to connect on Thomas’ relationship with the former Georgia standout.

“It was great. Coach Smart knows me more because he talked about Big Solomon from Georgia,” Thomas said. “He told me I’m built a lot differently than him, and my recruitment has been a lot better so far than Solomon’s. I have that connection with him and have him in my corner. That’s a huge advantage for me.”

And the experience in Athens, overall, gave the rising junior a strong read on the people around the program.

“It was a real home-y feel. I met some older and younger recruits. They were good guys and seemed like great people, even aside from football,” he said. “With football players, people usually see our size and see what we do the field, and they think we’re mean guys. It’s all laughs and smiles, though, for real.”

Of course, the Dawgs also went out of their way to make it a memorable day for the four-star offensive tackle.

“The energy. The competitiveness every day. When I got there, they called me by my first name. It wasn’t like I was just another recruit,” he said. “They called my mom by her first name. They called my cousins by their names, too. This was before the lanyards. They couldn’t just look and see it. It was a more intimate feel with them doing that.”

Walking away, Georgia has solidified itself as a major factor for the services of the standout offensive lineman.

There are a couple of reasons as to why.

“They’re definitely top of my list. It’s the home feel. They have some older guys who are freshmen, and I saw them ball out. I went out to a practice a couple of months ago, and I saw how hard they work every single snap,” he said. “You have freshmen, basically, guys who should still be in high school, going against first-round picks. That’s every day. Day in, day out. They’re grinding with them, lifting with them, getting to know them outside of football. It rubs off on you. You become great, whether you want it or not.”

Now, he’s looking toward the summer, and could a possible return trip be on deck for Thomas?

“Probably, yes sir,” he said.

Solomon Thomas is ranked as the nation’s No. 32 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.
