CBS Sports releases new-look Top 25 and 1 after major roster movement

There’s been plenty of movement in the transfer portal, especially as Gonzaga landed two big-time commitments on Friday. As a result, CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish has released his new-look Top 25 and 1.

The top three all remain the same as UConn occupies the top spot followed by Purdue and Marquette. Duke has now entered the top four after Kyle Filipowski announced his decision to return to the Blue Devils instead of testing the NBA Draft waters. Despite sitting at No. 4 on April 10, Miami now finds itself ranked No. 13 after Isaiah Wong declared for the draft. Florida Atlantic once again rounded out the top five, followed by Creighton.

Gonzaga makes two big splashes in the transfer portal

Gonzaga was the latest big winner in the portal, landing two huge commitments Friday. The first came from Wyoming center Graham Ike, who averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Cowboys this past year before entering the portal. Then, a short while later, Gonzaga landed a commitment from former Creighton guard Ryan Nembhard, beating out the likes of Arizona and Alabama for his skills.

That helped the Bulldogs make the jump from No. 20 to No. 12 in CBS Sports’ rankings as both commits will play alongside Anton Watson and Malachi Smith, who are two of the top four scorers returning for Gonzaga this coming season.

Duke will blend returning talent with talented recruiting class in 2023-24

With Filipowski’s return, Duke will now bring back four of its top scorers from last year. Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor and Mark Mitchell are also returning for Jon Scheyer, who’ll be in his second year at the helm. That’s plenty of power back in the fold for the Blue Devils as they look to build off an ACC Tournament championship this past season, which is why CBS Sports has them in the top four.

Additionally, Duke has a highly ranked recruiting class coming in, checking in as the No. 2 class in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. The group is headlined by three five-star recruits, led by Jared McCain — the No. 14 player in the nation from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Sean Stewart and Caleb Foster are also in the mix as the No. 15 and No. 18-ranked prospects in the nation, respectively.
