4-star Notre Dame RB commit Aneyas Williams keys in on recruiting for Fighting Irish

Hannibal (Mo.) four-star running back Aneyas Williams has been locked in on recruiting since he announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Dec. 16.

While other schools have tried to come after Williams since his pledge, he’s focused entirely on building the the Fighting Irish’s class going forward

“I am locked in and set with Notre Dame,” Williams told On3. “The class we are building is something special and we are building something special. We have nine commitments now and we’re building more onto that. The connection we all have with this coaching staff is special.

“Notre Dame is where I want to be. Some schools reach out, and they may be waiting for a response, but I am locked in with Notre Dame.”

After finishing with a top-10 class in Marcus Freeman’s first year, the Irish once again have a top-10 class as they continue building. Some guys Williams noted as top targets in his eyes, four-star tight end Jaden Reddell and five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott.

Williams said that there’s a group chat where he and the other Notre Dame commits actively try to recruit guys like Reddell and Scott.

“I tell them about Notre Dame, the depth, the opportunities and why it would be great place for them,” said Williams, the No. 196 player in the country. “The spot is there for Justin Scott. I tell him that he needs come and take it by staying home and being a part of something special.”

Williams bond with Notre Dame coaches special

What Freeman brings to the table going into his second year at Notre Dame is something else Williams acknowledged as a factor he uses when he tries to recruit other top prospects to Notre Dame.

“Coach Freeman has that cool smile, but he is mean,” Williams said. “He was in the NFL as a middle linebacker, so don’t let that smile fool you. He is a head coach that we can have a fun and serious relationship with.

“Coach Freeman is different and every player means the world to him. At practice, he that smile covers up his intensity and passion for the game. He is going to be great to play for.”

Notre Dame had some struggles early on under Freeman losing back-to-back games to start the year and losing to Stanford at the midway point of the season.

However, the Fighting Irish rebounded in a big way finishing the year 9-4 with a bowl win and signing the No. 10 recruiting class in the country. A lot of that success Williams attributes directly to Freeman.

“There aren’t any limits to what coach Marcus Freeman can do,” Williams said. “He gets his guys that are top recruits, he is building a great team and he is a great coach. Day by day, Notre Dame is getting better and it is something I want to be a part of.”
