Updated odds released for key Miami games following spring ball
The Miami Hurricanes entered year one under Mario Cristobal with high expectations. Those expectations may have been too high, in hindsight, as the Hurricanes finished 5-7, missing a bowl game. However, it’s clear that Miami needs to bounce back in 2023.
Now, with spring practices coming to an end around the country, FanDuel has released odds for select games during that 2023 season. That includes two interesting non-conference games for the Hurricanes.
Here are the odds for two of Miami’s 2023 games, according to FanDuel:
vs. Miami (OH) -17vs. Texas A&M +6.5
Miami’s first four games in 2023 are all non-conference games. Miami (OH) and Texas A&M are Miami’s first two games. Both of those are at home and will be followed up by a game against Bethune-Cookman, a team Miami beat 70-13 last season. Then the Hurricanes hit the road to play Temple to round out non-conference play.
Miami playing against Miami (OH) is going to be a fun, albeit confusing, name game. It’s their first time meeting since 1987 and the Hurricanes hold a 3-0 all-time record in the series. The Hurricanes are currently a three-score favorite in that game.
After that, the Hurricanes play what looks to be their premier non-conference opponent in Texas A&M. The Aggies won an ugly 17-9 game last year in College Station. With that, the Hurricanes are going to want to get some form of revenge. However, they’ll have to get that revenge as a 6.5-point underdog.
All of this is coming as Mario Cristobal has had to turn over his coaching staff. Offensive and defensive coordinators, Shannon Dawson and Lance Guidry, are both in their first year coaching at Miami. How that transition works out for the Hurricanes still remains to be seen, though.
Mario Cristobal says the Miami roster could change
Part of the challenge in setting odds for games in the spring is that a lot can change between now and the fall. That’s especially true thanks to the transfer portal, and, as Mario Cristobal explained, the Hurricanes roster could be undergoing a lot of changes during the transfer window.
“We’re very fortunate to have coached and played for some really great coaches,” Cristobal explained. “It’s a blueprint that has stood the test of time and we’re sticking to it. To make that blueprint work, we still have to enhance the talent on our roster.”
