BREAKING: Priority RB Jayden Scott commits to NC State

BREAKING: Priority RB Jayden Scott commits to NC State

NC State football recevied some more good news Wednesday afternoon when Jayden Scott committed to the Wolfpack. The three-star running back is the highest-ranked member of the program’s 2024 recruiting class.

He announced the decision at Stockbridge (Ga.) High in front of his friends, teammates, coaches and family. After receiving an offer from the program in January, he visited Raleigh twice over the next two months and, after evaluating his options, made his commitment to the Wolfpack.

With an On3 Industry rating of 87.83, he holds the highest rating in NC State’s 2024 recruiting class.

Scott told TheWolfpacker.com that he was close to a decision after his second visit, but he wanted to continue through the recruiting process just to make sure. His visits elsewhere reaffirmed what he already knew— NC State is his collegiate home.

Running backs coach Todd Goebbel made Scott a clear priority after offering, and TheWolfpacker.com heard from both the running back and Thomas Clark, his head coach at Stockbridge, that no one recruited the class of 2024 prospect harder than the Wolfpack.

“As soon as he offered me, he said that he was probably going to be the hardest person that recruited me,” Scott said. “And he just kept it up. He texted me two, three times a week.

“Once I told him how interested I was, he started stepping up, texting me maybe four to five times a week, calling me twice a week. The persistence he had, it was big.”

His top 3 list included NC State, Wake Forest and Rutgers going into Wednesday’s announcement. South Carolina, Miami and many others also offered the three-star prospect. Before informing the Wolfpack staff of his decision, Scott wrapped up a west coast road trip that included stops at California and Stanford.

During his junior season season, the 5-10, 190-pound running back missed time due to injury but was incredibly productive in the team’s final five games of the year. He carried the ball just 6 times his first game back but scored 2 touchdowns.

Over the next four weeks, Scott rushed for more than 100 yards in each of those contests, averaging 9.2 yards-per-carry or better in three matchups. He finished the year with 542 rushing yards on 64 carries and 10 touchdowns in just 5 games. Scott played in 4 games his sophomore year, racking up 459 yards at 114.8 yards-per-game and 4 touchdowns. Stockbridge High competes at the 4A level in Georgia.

Scott is the fifth member of the 2024 class overall and the second who will play offense for the Wolfpack, joining three-star quarterback commit Cedrick Bailey Jr..

On3 considers Scott the No. 45 running back in the nation and the No. 73 prospect in Georgia’s 2024 class.
