Jayden Scott on NC State: ‘It just felt like it was the right place for me’

Jayden Scott on NC State: ‘It just felt like it was the right place for me’

Jayden Scott picked up an offer from NC State in January, visited the Wolfpack three days later and returned to campus for spring practice. After that second visit, he was ready to call Raleigh home.

The decision is a weight off of his shoulders, Scott said, and he heads into the summer excited to join NC State’s 2024 recruiting class. During his March 3 visit to campus, he continued to build bonds with the coaches, learn about the school’s computer engineering program, his future major, and tour the facilities.

“It just felt like it was the right place for me,” Scott told TheWolfpacker.com.

His visits to campus checked a lot of boxes, and running backs coach Todd Goebbel made sure he maintained constant contact as the running back continued through his decision-making process.

“As soon as he offered me, he said that he was probably going to be the hardest person that recruited me,” Scott said. “And he just kept it up. He texted me two, three times a week.

“Once I told him how interested I was, he started stepping up, texting me maybe four to five times a week, calling me twice a week. The persistence he had, it was big.”

Naturally, the Wolfpack assistant coach was the first member of the staff to hear about Scott’s decision. He officially informed NC State Saturday, April 15.

“They all were very stoked,” Scott said. “Coach Goebbel was so excited. . . His wife told me how much he’s been waiting to hear that because we’ve been talking about it for weeks and weeks prior.”

Head coach Dave Doeren was also a key member of Scott’s recruitment. He reached out to the running back at least one per week to let him know he is a top priority.

NC State’s staff, and the program overall, make the Stockbridge (Ga.) High star comfortable on and off the field.

“What makes me excited is that I’m playing with almost no stress,” Scott said. “I feel like I’m playing with a great staff. I’ll be developed very [well] on top of playing with people that care about me deeper than football.”

Offensive coordinator Robert Anae’s offense impressed the running back when he watched practice earlier this spring. Scott previously told TheWolfpacker.com that he will be a great fit for the Air Raid offense.

“Just having a lot of different opportunities to get the ball— whether it’s in space or between the tackles— I feel like I’ll excel,” Scott said.

The running back said he has great vision and explosion between the tackles, which will help the 5-10, 190-pound back excel at the collegiate level.

Scott heard from a lot of the staff after he told Goebbel and Doeren his decision over the weekend. Wide receiver coach Joker Phillips reached out and asked if the running back is ready to do some recruiting.

“I said, ‘Yes, sir. Whatever you need, I’ve got you,” Scott said.

Scott, who the program’s first commit of the cycle from Georgia, shared his recruiting pitch with TheWolfpacker.com

“You’re going to get a great staff, a very competitive football experience, a team ready to compete for, not only a conference title, but also a national title,” Scott said.

“Come get good football, good academics with great people.”

Class of 2024 interior offensive lineman Amare’ Grayson, Scott’s teammate and one of his best friends at Stockbridge, visited NC State for the spring game. He already holds offers from Maryland and West Virginia, but the running back plans on recruiting him to Raleigh.

“That’s already a work in progress,” Scott said.

Scott will officially visit NC State June 16-18, the same weekend as cornerback commit Asaad Brown II, four-star wide receivers Alex Taylor, Jonathan Paylor and Terrell Anderson along with three-star safety Quentin Reddish

The running back plans on enrolling early after signing with Wolfpack in December.
