Ole Miss parted ways with Kermit Davis at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season. Then, athletics director Keith Carter and chancellor Glenn Boyce hired former Texas Tech and Texas head coach Chris Beard.
Upon being introduced to Oxford and Ole Miss fans, the Rebels 23rd basketball coach quickly hit the recruiting trail and NCAA Transfer Portal. The 2019 AP National Coach of the Year hopes to quickly rebuild the Ole Miss roster and get the Rebels back into the NCAA Tournament next season.
Let’s take a look at which prospects we have confirmed Beard and Ole Miss have reached out to.

PF Robert Jennings (Texas Tech)
Size: 6-foot-7, 225 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: DeSoto (TX) Texas Alliance of Christian Athletes
2022-23 stats: 2.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, 8.8 minutes
This year, Jennings played in 30 games with four starts, averaging 2.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.2 blocks per game. He ended his freshman shooting 26-for-61 (42.6 percent) and had nine games with three or more rebounds.
As a recruit out of Texas Alliance of Christian Athletes (Tex.), he averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds as a senior. He signed with TTU over offers from Texas A&M, TCU, Missouri, Ole Miss, SMU and Penn State.

PG Adante Holiman (Texas Rio Grande Valley)
Size: 5-foot-9, 160 pounds
Year: Freshman
High school: McAlester (Okla.) High
2022-23 stats: 7.5 points, 3.0 assists and 1.2 rebounds
As a senior, Holiman ended his career as McAlester’s all-time leading scorer with 2,393 points, ranking among the top 50 in Oklahoma history. Also finished with 331 rebounds, 250 assists and 255 steals. As a senior, he was named All-State, Region 6 Male Athlete of the Year and McAlester News-Capital All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
CG Jayden Taylor (Butler)
Size: 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Indianapolis (Ind.) Perry Meridian
2022-23 stats: 12.9 points, 1.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds
Taylor started 44 of the 65 games he played in during his Butler career. The former Perry Meridian (Ind.) prospect started the first 13 games this season, came off the bench for 10 and started the final nine. He averaged 12.9 points per game to lead the Bulldogs. He also led the team in free throws made (97) and was second on the team in three-pointers made with 45.

SG Kowacie Reeves (Florida)
Size: 6-foot-6, 185 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Macon (Ga.) Westside
2022-23 stats: 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds
He started seven of the program’s first 10 games but came off the bench for the remainder of the season. The former No. 10 shooting guard and 4th-ranked prospect from Georgia was a four-star prospect out of Macon, Ga., in the 2021 recruiting class. He was named as the No. 42 overall player in the On3 Industry recruiting rankings in 2021.
Ole Miss recruited him out of high school.

SF Myles Stute (Vanderbilt)
Size: 6-foot-7, 215 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga
2022-23 stats: 8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 36.1 percent from three-point range
Stute averaged just over eight points a game his last two seasons and is known for his three-point shooting ability. As a sophomore he led the SEC from deep, shooting 43 percent from deep. This year his percentage dropped down to 31 percent but his length on the wing also proves beneficial on the defensive end.

PG Noah Fernandes (UMass)
Size: 5-foot-11, 180 pounds
Year: Grad Transfer
High school: Woodstock (CT) Woodstock Academy
2022-23 stats: 13.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.3 steals, 45.2 percent from three-point range
Fernandes committed to Wichita State out of high school but transferred to UMass after one year. He has started 51 of 52 games played while at UMass. As a junior, Fernandes averaged a team-leading 14.9 points per game to go along with a team-best 5.3 assists. He was 28th nationally in assists per game and 56th in the country in total assists. He was also fourth in the Atlantic 10 with a 2.04 assist-to-turnover ratio.

SF Jace Carter (Illinois-Chicago)
Size: 6-foot-5, 215 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Titusville (FL) Astronaut
2022-23 stats: 16.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 45.6 percent from the field
He scored 20+ points six times this year, including a season-high of 25 points against Bradley. As a freshman, he was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team and averaged 8.1 points per game while ranking second on the team with 5.4 rebounds. He missed nine games due to injury.
CG Walter Clayton Jr (Iona)
Size: 6-foot-2, 195 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Lake Wales (FL) Bartow
2022-23 stats: 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals
He was named the MAAC Player of the Year, helping Iona make the NCAA Tournament under former head coach Rick Pitino. Clayton led the country with a 95.33 percent free throw percentage and was a highly-regarded football prospect. He held offers from notable programs including Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Tennessee. On the hardwood, he led Bartow High School to a 31-1 record and a Class 6A Florida basketball state title.

CG Jalen Cone (Northern Arizona)
Size: 5-foot-11, 163 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Walkertown (N.C.) High
2022-23 stats: 17.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 42.4 percent from the field
s a sophomore, Cone averaged 18.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game and was named All-Big Sky Third Team. Prior to his time as a Lumberjack, he was on the roster at Virginia Tech. There, he averaged 9.2 points in 20 minutes per game in 2020-2021.

SF Ike Cornish (Maryland)
Size: 6-foot-6, 190 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Baltimore (Md.) Legacy Charter
2022-23 stats: appeared in 21 games, 70 percent from free throw line, 35.7 percent from the field
He was a Top 100 prospect coming out of Legacy Carter (Md.). He chose the Terrapins over notable offers from Georgetown, DePaul, St. John’s, VCU, Virginia Tech, Xavier and Rutgers.
C Russel Tchewa (USF)
Size: 7-foot, 280 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Putnam (Conn.) Putnam Science Academy
2022-23 stats: 11.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 60.6 percent from the field
The 7-foot, 280 pound prospect originally signed with Chris Beard at Texas Tech in 2019-2020. There he played in 23 games and averaged 1.7 points and 0.9 rebounds per game off the bench. He then transferred to USF for the 2020-2021 season.
PG Camren Hunter (Central Arkansas)
Size: 6-foot-3, 200 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Bryant (Ark.) High
2022-23 stats: 16.9 points, five rebounds, 3.9 assists and shot 42.3 percent from the field
Beard reached out to Hunter on Monday, as first reported by Kevin McPherson of Arkansas Hoop Scoop. The news came out on the heels of On3’s Joe Tipton reporting the 6-foot-3, 200 pound prospect was down to Arkansas, Missouri, Butler, Loyola-Chicago and Saint Louis.He has since re-opened his recruitment and is “no longer down to the below five schools and is now open to other programs”.
Arkansas is the frontrunner but Ole Miss might be able to get a visit and change that.

SG LeTre Darthard (Utah Valley)
Size: 6-foot-4, 180 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Denton (Tex.) Guyer
2022-23 stats: 13.8 points 3.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and shot 42.5 percent from the field
He was an All-WAC performer for Mark Madsen and the NIT semifinalists. In high school he played on a 38-2 Guyer High School squad that was loaded. He already is generating a ton of high major interest from teams like SMU, Seton Hall, Providence, TCU and ECU.
SG Aaron Estrada (Hofstra)
Size: 6-foot-4, 205-pounds
Year: Grad transfer
High school: Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict Prep
2022-23 stats: 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.5 steals
He was named the CAA Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons and is one of the more efficient scorers in the portal. Estrada is currently the No. 6 player in the 2023 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. He originally signed with Saint Peter’s and earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors before transferring to Oregon.

PG Austin Nunez (Arizona State)
Size: 6-foot-2, 170-pounds
Year: Freshman
High school: San Antonio (Tex.) Wagner
2022-23 stats: 4.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 42 percent shooting from the field
Nunez was named a McDonald’s All-American out of Wagner (Tex.) after a senior season where he won the Alamo High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year award. He averaged 28.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists as a senior. He also topped the 1,500 point mark during his prep career.
The Texas recruit was the 16th overall point guard in the country and the No. 8 player in Texas. ASU head coach Bobby Hurley had this to say about Nunez after signing him in 2022.
SF Brandon Murray (Georgetown)
Size: 6-foot-5, 225-pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
2022-23 stats: 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists
Murray began his college career at LSU, where he averged 10 points, three rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in his freshman season with the Tigers. Murray entered the transfer portal last offseason after LSU fired head coach Will Wade.
Murray is a former four-star recruit and was the No. 80 overall player in the nation from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
PG El Ellis (Louisville)
Size: 6-foot-3, 175-pounds
Year: Senior
High school: Durham (N.C.) Quality Education Academy
2022-23 stats: 17.7 points, 4.4 assists and shot 44 percent from the field
He has declared for the NBA Draft but will maintain his eligibility and will enter the NCAA transfer portal as he explores all of his options, per On3’s Joe Tipton. Arkansas, Pitt, NC State, Mississippi State, Creighton, Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, Rutgers, Florida State, Seton Hall, Ohio State and UCF have also reached out.
The 6-foot-3, 175 pound recruit was one of if not the only bright spot for a Cardinals program which had a miserable first season under new head coach Kenny Payne. Ellis averaged 17.7 points and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field.

PG Tylor Perry (North Texas)
Size: 5-foot-11, 180 pounds
Year: Grad transfer
High school: Fort Coffee (Okla.) Spiro High
2022-23 stats: 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals
He earned Conference USA Player of the Year honors and was the NIT Most Valuable Player. He’s a dynamic scorer who can score from just about anywhere on the court. He was also tabbed First Team All-Conference, NIT All-Tournament Team, Conference USA All-Tournament Team and NABC First Team All-District.
SF Christian Shumate (McNeese State)
Size: 6-foot-7, 205 pounds
Year: Sophomore
High school: Chicago (Ill.) Bloom
2022-23 stats: 15.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game
He shot 55 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range. He was an All-Southland Conference selection as a freshman and was preseason all-league this past season. In high school, Shumate averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks per game at Bloom (Ill.) in 2019-2020. He helped them to a 28-6 record and was all-state and all-conference. Shumate was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the south suburban area.
SF RJ Luis (UMass)
Size: 6-foot-7, 200 pounds
Year: Freshman
High school: Lanham (Md.) Mt. Zion Prep
2022-23 stats: 11.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals
He was on the A10 All-Freshman this season after averaging double figures for Frank Martin’s squad. Luis was First-Team 7A All-State after averaging 25 points and 11 rebounds per game at Columbus (Fla.) as a senior.
C Jamarion Sharp (Western Kentucky)
Size: 7-foot-5, 235 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Hopkinsville (Ky.) High
2022-23 stats: 7.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.1 blocks
As a junior, he played in every game for the Hilltoppers and averaged 7.6 rebounds and 4.62 blocks per game, leading the country in swats. He ended the season with 148 total blocks, shattering the program record of 97. He is a two-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year.
C John Hugley (Pittsburgh)
Size: 6-foot-9, 240 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Cleveland (OH) Brush High
2022-23 stats: 8 games, 8.0 points, 3.6 rebounds.
Hugley missed the majority of this season for personal reasons but led Pittsburgh in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (7.9) in his sophomore season. In doing so, he was named All-ACC. Beard and Ole Miss desperately need a physical presence inside that can score. Hugley provides that and then some.
PG Ques Glover (Samford)
Size: 5-foot-11, 175 pounds
Year: Junior
High school: Bearden (Tenn.) High
2022-23 stats: 14.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 38 percent from three-point range
He averaged 19.2 points per game as a sophomore and was second in the league in assists. Glover missed double-digit games this season with a knee injury, but had four 20-point outings in a 10-game stretch for the Bulldogs, who tied for the SoCon regular season title with Furman.
