Auburn to see nation’s top-ranked interior OL Casey Poe Monday

According to priority Auburn offensive line target Casey Poe of Lindale (Tex.), Tigers’ offensive line coach Jake Thornton will be in to see him on Monday.
With the NCAA quiet period ending on April 14, coaches are now available to go back on the road and evaluate recruiting targets. Thornton considers Poe one of the top overall recruits on his board, and the immediate trip gives that some credibility.
“Coach (Jake) Thornton and coach (Hugh) Freeze are (communicating),” Poe said. “In fact, Coach Thornton has already texted me and said he’s going to be at my school tomorrow morning.”
Poe is ranked by On3 as the No. 1 interior offensive line recruit in the country. He is On3’s No. 32 overall player in the country and the No. 7 player in Texas as well.
It sounds as though Poe is the first offensive line target Thornton will be seeing in person for the spring evaluation period.
“That is very cool,” Poe said. “To be that high on someone’s list is a really good feeling.”
Poe is being courted by several of the nation’s top programs including Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgia, Clemson and many others.
Thornton will be on the road seeing several top offensive line targets along with Poe.
NCAA spring evaluation period rules
Here are the rules for spring evaluation recruiting period. It starts after a “quiet period.” Coaches were not allowed to be on the road, but could host recruits on campus. These rules are from ncsasports.org.
Coaches can take 168 evaluation days (or 216 for U.S. Service Academies). An authorized recruiter can use one evaluation day to assess a recruit’s athletic ability. Then, they can use another evaluation day to assess the recruit’s academic qualifications. Coaches/recruiters can do both assessments on the same day, and then take a second evaluation day to evaluate athletic ability again if they choose.
The days in April/May that are not designated as evaluation days are considered part of the quiet period.
