‘Feel like I’m home’ … Nation’s No. 1 tight end, Landen Thomas, recaps latest FSU visit

It was a pretty big deal when the nation’s No. 1 tight end, Landen Thomas, visited Florida State in January for one of the Seminoles’ Junior Day recruiting events.
Now, the elite recruit has taken things further — much further.
Thomas, who is committed to Georgia, came back to Tallahassee in early April for a second visit this year, then returned again this weekend to check out the Seminoles’ spring showcase. Despite the fact that the Bulldogs were holding their spring game as well.
“It was good yesterday,” Thomas told Warchant on Sunday. “I think overall the team is coming together, putting all the pieces together. That’s why they are trending up in the right direction. They get better and better every year.”
Thomas, who is the No. 21 recruit in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, was actually committed to Florida State from April of 2021 to October of that year. And even though he broke off that pledge about 18 months ago, his relationship with Florida State tight ends coach Chris Thomsen and the entire staff has only gotten stronger.
“Coach Thomsen, he’s really chill,” the Colquitt County (Ga.) High standout said. “We talk about everything, not just football. [With] football, he talks to me about ways he can get me the ball and be used, stuff like that. …
“They’re just cool people to be around. You can talk to them, you can laugh and joke with them. When it comes to the field, [Norvell] is full of energy and all that. That’s good people to be around.”
Thanks in part to Florida State’s turnaround last season, Thomas’ feelings about the Seminoles seem to have been rejuvenated.
“I got back on campus, and I forgot how I feel about down here …,” he said. “It just feels comfortable down here. Like I feel like I’m home. Like I belong.”
And he said he appreciates the fact that the Seminoles never pushed him away when he decommitted and later made his pledge to Georgia.
“Our relationship has gotten really strong,” Thomas said. “The coaches have always kept a relationship and told me they were going to be with me from the beginning to the end. They kept their word. … They always stayed consistent with me.”
When asked if he might have to reconsider his decision at some point, Thomas would only say, “Maybe.”
