Top-50 national recruit Jalen Wiggins sees ‘really good fit’ in Gainesville

Jalen Wiggins already has a certain comfort level with the Florida Gators.

“We’ve been looking at the people here and I feel like I could be a really good fit at Florida,” Wiggins said..

Wiggins, a 4-star 2025 prospect from Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards, is projected anywhere from defensive line to ege/jack linebacker. He’s already 6-foot-5, 235 pounds and he said after attending the Orange & Blue Game on Thursday he’s still growing.

As of today, he’s the No. 36 prospect in the country for On3.

For Wiggins, Thursday’s visit was his second to Florida this year.

“I mean, just seeing it — the energy and everything was real good,” Wiggins said. “Even the hospitality, coming in at first It was a real great experience just to see everything here.”

According to Wiggins, he didn’t get much time with the Gators coaching staff Thursday. But he said he has built a good relationship already with edge coach Mike Peterson, who doubles as his area recruiter.

Wiggins is high on the Florida staff

“I mean, he’s great. He’s been hitting me up,” Wiggins said. “Him texting me back and forth, he usually helps me out. He’ll help me like, make sure I attack the day great. Attack the day the best that I can. We’ve been really going back and forth because I know he actually is from (the area) so we kind of have this relationship with him already.”

Of the Florida staff, he added, “They make sure to talk to me from time to time just to make sure of all types of stuff. They tell me to be ready. Just be prepared for anything.”

When Wiggins visited Florida earlier this year, he got lots of face time with Peterson and Co.

“He told me when I first came down here, he sees me more as like an edge/end,” Wiggins said. “Kind of like I’d be standing up or down in the stance depending on how I fill out. .. I can move, shift in and out.”

Thursday night, Wiggins closely tracked the Florida pass rushers.

“I like how they do it,” Wiggins said. “Most of what I saw, second down most of their bigger edges they’ll use them mostly as a center stone just to like, keep the guy down. Then on third down, they’re used more kind of like a scheme where they’ll run like two fast edges on the outside and kind of put the bigger, but still fast edges, on the inside to get kind of a better pass rush.”

It’s early in his recruitment, but Wiggins said Florida, Georgia and UCF were schools that stood out.

“That’s what It looks like right now,” Wiggins said. “I’m still trying to go around and look at all of them.”
