Notre Dame basketball hiring Virginia assistant Kyle Getter
Notre Dame head basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry has been busy assembling his staff in South Bend, Indiana. On Friday evening, the word became official that former Virginia assistant coach Kyle Getter was joining Shrewsbury at Notre Dame as his associate head coach, according to Preston Willett of CBS19 Sports in Charlottesville. Getter was one of the top recruiters for the Virginia basketball staff and had excellent relationships with many of the players on their roster.
Getter and Shrewsberry both coached together at Hanover College, their alma mater. Getter leaving for Notre Dame leaves a spot for Virginia head coach Tony Bennett to fill on his staff. Getter was in his fifth season working for Bennett and the Cavaliers. He spent three seasons as UVA’s Director of Recruiting/Player Development. Since he joined the Cavaliers’ staff, he was a part of Virginia’s magical march to the 2019 National Championship, two regular season championships in 2019 and 2021; and a second place ACC finish in 2020.
