2024 EDGE Travis Jackson has Alabama in top five following offer
Tyler Legacy High School in Texas has been a familiar program for Nick Saban‘s staff in recent years. Alabama has signed a blue-chip prospect from the school in two consecutive classes: Jam Miller (2022) and Jordan Renaud (2023).
On Wednesday, the Crimson Tide extended an offer to four-star EDGE Travis Jackson.
“I was shocked. I’m not going to lie,” Jackson told BamaInsider. “It was crazy. [Coach Holmon Wiggins] said they like my speed, my athleticism, and my effort. Every play, I’m putting in 100 percent effort no matter what.”
Jackson went on to add that Wiggins stopped by Tyler Legacy to see Renaud a few months ago. He later told Jackson that he wanted to see him put on more weight; since then, Jackson has gone from 215 pounds to 233 pounds.
The top-30 EDGE prospect, who plans on camping at Bama in early June, detailed his early interest in the Tide.
“It’s Alabama, they’re going to be up there regardless,” Jackson said. “I’ve got 13 offers, but they’re already top five. It’s their work ethic, their culture, their mindset. They just want to win. Nothing else is talked about.
“They don’t expect to lose… their mindset is to win every game, every time, against anybody they play.”
Jackson receives message from former teammate, current Alabama DL Jordan Renaud
During their time in high school together, Jackson and Renaud chopped it up with each other almost every day. The two spoke at length following Jackson’s offer from Alabama this week.
“We talked for 40 minutes,” Jackson said. “He said that they work every day. It’s a big change, but he’s happy about the change. He said, ‘If you come to Bama, be ready to work.’”
Renaud didn’t mention position coach Freddie Roach in that conversation with Jackson. Jackson, however, is familiar with Alabama’s d-line coach as he camped in Tuscaloosa last summer.
“I think he’s going to push you,” Jackson said of Roach. “Every day, he has high expectations. He wants 100 percent out of you. He wants you to be the best you can be.”
Jackson is also intrigued by the way that Roach and Company utilize their pass rushers at Bama.
“I feel like they set them up in a good position to kind of do both,” Jackson said. “They set [Will Anderson Jr.] up really, really good to where he can do his little thing with the pass rush, but also stop the run. Dallas Turner, they set him up good, too.”
Looking at his upcoming itinerary, Jackson will be at TCU’s spring game on Friday and is considering a trip to Oklahoma State on April 22. He has official visits locked in to Kansas State (June 20-21) and Oregon State (June 23-24).
Jackson, who is eyeing a potential August commitment, laid out the most important factors for him in his recruitment.
“I don’t want to go into college and start first year… it would be a blessing if I get to,” Jackson said. “But I just want to be developed by a school that actually cares about me and wants me. Also, just the school and education.”
Alabama fans, also be sure to join the discussion about Nick Saban’s staff’s newest offer on the Talk of Champions message board. There’s always a lot of great team, recruiting, and off-topic conversations going on. So, we look forward to talking with you all there!
