Georgia commit Peyton Woodyard will visit Ohio State today
COLUMBUS — Ohio State and its recruiting momentum continues to take off into late spring.
The Buckeyes added their latest member to the 2024 class Tuesday evening in four-star Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy linebacker Payton Pierce. That run of recruiting prowess carries on into Wednesday.
Four-star Bellflower (Calif) St. John Bosco and Georgia commit Peyton Woodyard is taking an unofficial visit to Ohio State per Lettermen Row sources.
Woodyard, the No. 3 safety and No. 51 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Rankings, is making his fourth visit to Columbus. This is his first visit to any program other than Georgia since he committed to the Bulldogs on Jan. 7.
Lettermen Row sources indicated back in January that the Buckeyes weren’t going to stop recruiting Woodyard. The Buckeyes like his fit in their 4-2-5 defense and they like what Woodyard would add to Ohio State off the field as a person.
The last time he was on campus was on Sept. 3 for the Ohio State season opener against Notre Dame. Woodyard spoke with Lettermen Row following the visit about what stood out.
“Playing in front of 106,000 people isn’t something you get to do every day,” Woodyard said. “At Ohio State, it’s almost like that all the time on every game day, so I think that’s something I could see myself being a part of.”
He continues.
“It’s second to none, he’s a great guy,” Woodyard said about his relationship with safeties coach Perry Eliano. “He explains to me every time just how much I mean to him, and he explained how I can make an immediate impact as soon as I get there.
“And shoot, I really like the idea of that.”
Woodyard committed to Georgia over Ohio State and others on Jan. 7 at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
“The brand of football that they play, they play a national schedule every year and they win national championships,” Woodyard told On3. “Their defense is the best, in my opinion, and I think a lot of people can vouch for it and it’s proven.
Woodyard will only be on campus today.
