New On3 Recruiting Prediction: Auburn will be tough to beat for 4-star LB D’Angelo Barber

Auburn could be on the brink of adding a commitment from four-star linebacker D’Angelo Barber.

Barber, who is from Clay-Chalkville in Pinson, Ala., announced Tuesday on Instagram that an “announcement” is coming April 23. He didn’t, however, specify what would be announced.

If it’s a commitment announcement, which seems most likely, I expect he’ll commit to Auburn. And I’m joining Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston and Keith Niebuhr in predicting it.

Pinkston predicted Barber to Auburn in early March. Niebuhr followed suit late last week. I’m doing the same.

And there are plenty of reasons to do so.

Barber top target for the Tigers

Barber is a top target for Auburn. There’s no denying the Tigers’ interest level in him is high. Heck, Hugh Freeze is as involved in Barber’s recruitment as linebackers coach Josh Aldridge.

Barber has been very impressed with both coaches throughout his recruitment.

“Man, I love Coach Freeze,” he said in March. “I love his enthusiasm and honesty and his calm, collected attitude. With Coach Freeze, he talks to you on the same type level as you. He doesn’t use his position as a higher authority or try to belittle you or talk down to you. He’s just a straight-up guy and an all-around great guy.”

Barber visited for a practice in March and got to see first-hand how Aldridge coaches the linebackers.

“I spent just about the whole second half of the day with Coach Aldridge,” Barber said. “I was standing beside of him the whole practice. He’s a great, energetic guy and brutally honest, too. He’s a great man and a great coach overall. I love being around him as well.”

Auburn clear frontrunner for 4-star LB

It’s hard to think there’s a school higher on his list than Auburn.

“Auburn is very high on my list right now,” the four-star linebacker said. “It definitely feels like a place I could call home.”

Barber, who is on pace to graduate high school in December and enroll in college in January, is ranked the No. 25 recruit in Alabama, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 43 linebacker and No. 413 overall recruit in the class.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has Auburn as the heavy favorite. The Tigers are at 97.5% and rising.

And it’s easy to see why.
