Georgia ATH Jiquavious Marshall talks Michigan offer, early impressions on defense

Michigan has made the state of Georgia an ever-so important region for recruiting with two signees from the 2023 class and one 2025 verbal commit hailing from the Peach State. Working towards that number in 2024 remains a vital goal for the Wolverines.

The day after St. Patrick’s Day, an offer was formally delivered to 2024 Macon (Ga.) Westside two-way athlete Jiquavious Marshall, whose recruitment has soared this offseason with his offer sheet well over the double-digit mark.

“Oh, it was like the best feeling that I’ve ever had in a while,” Marshall told The Wolveirne. “Knowing that I got an offer from a top school that I was looking at was great.”

Marshall and Westside teammate, 2024 safety Tony Mathis, each reported their respective Michigan offers on that Friday.

An early conversation over the phone for Marshall took place with defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale soon after the offer was received. Marshall is being looked at on both sides of the ball by interested colleges but his 6-foot-4 and 180-pound frame is on Michigan’s secondary.

Some schools are eyeing Marshall primarily for defensive or wide receiver while others simply desire him for his athleticism.

“It was a good (conversation with Clinkscale),” Marshall said. “It was one of the best talks that I’ve ever had with a college coach. We were just trying to sort out plans for me to come up to visit. (He said) that I’m just a good athlete all-around.”

Impressions of the Wolverines from afar have predominatly been their defensive success, according to Marshall, who’ll try to fly out to Ann Arbor later on this spring once team practice concludes, either for an unofficial or official visit.

“Michigan’s defense is tremendous,” Marshall said. “It’s one of the best defenses that I’ve ever watched. I love the scheme that they run (based on) watching film of them playing. Also, the crowds (at The Big House) are always getting into the games.”

Bonding with the entire coaching staff, touring every single part of the facilities and exploring how daily operations are done by Michigan are some of the expectations for Marshall once he does visit.

Scheduling official visits will begin in June as Marshall is hearing a lot from Florida State, Florida and Kentucky. A program that’s holding a strong lead to land Marshall, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), is Georgia Tech, who’s brought him to campus twice so far. Nebraska is another on Marshall’s offer sheet that’s consistently recruiting him over the phone.

“It would mean a lot to me (to play for Michigan),” Marshall said. “If I committed, it would mean that they saw something in me. They want to better me not only in football, but also school and financials.”

Marshall is ranked as the No. 28 overall athlete in the country and No. 69 junior in the state of Georgia, according to On3.com.
