After missing on Air Noland, where does Texas A&M go from here at the QB position?

Saturday evening she one of the top uncommitted quarterback prospects come off the board as Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes Top-50 national prospect Air Noland committed to Ohio State. Texas A&M was among the finalists for Noland and sources have indicated the Aggies came in second place to the Buckeyes, meaning they were in it to the end.

Looking at the 2024 class for Texas A&M, it has long been thought the Aggies will take two quarterbacks in this cycle. They already hold one commitment from Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove three-star quarterback Anthony Maddox.

In recent months, there were two primary names thought as the most likely to join him in the class. Those were the aforementioned Noland and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Gulliver Prep quarterback Davi Belfort, who committed to Virginia Tech a few weeks ago.

So where does Texas A&M go now?

Texas A&M is reported as offering 17 quarterback prospects in the 2024 cycle. 12 of those prospects are committed to schools, including Maddox, who is pledged to the Aggies. Only two of the uncommitted offers are ranked as four or five star prospects, one of which is No. 1 quarterback Dylan Raiola, who does not have Texas A&M involved in his recruitment. The other is Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Josephs four-star Semaj Jones, who is currently favored to land at Penn State.

The three other offers are all ranked outside of the national rankings. Those are Miami (Fla.) Mater Academy quarterback Adrian Posse, Highland Springs (Va.) quarterback Khristian Martin, and Chino Hills (Calif.) Ruben S. Ayala quarterback Bryan Wilson.

I don’t see Posse or Wilson as legitimate options for Texas A&M moving forward, but Martin is a possibility. Martin is the newest offer to the group, just earning his offer last week. While he is not a blue-chip prospect, with the Aggies being his lone SEC offer to this time, they may be an attractive spot for him.

Will the Aggies expand the board?

Because the Aggies seem to have very limited options available from their current offers, it is highly possible, and probable, the staff will look elsewhere in the country to evaluate more talent.

Looking at the national rankings, the options are slim and are thinning out by the week. Out of the top-25 ranked quarterbacks in the On3 Consensus rankings, 19 of them are committed, meaning only six of the top 25 prospects remain on the market. Two of them are two of the Aggies offers in Raiola and Jones.

The top ranked uncommitted prospect on the board the Aggies have not offered is Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei Top-100 prospect Elijah Brown. The Aggies made a run for Mater Dei’s last elite signal caller in Malachi Nelson and could try to make a late push in this cycle, but at this point, I don’t see that being a legitimate option.

One option that could be quite interesting is Bowie (MD) St. Frances Academy four-star Michael Van Buren. Penn State appears to be the leader in the clubhouse with Maryland trailing. The Nittany Lions are scheduled to receive an official visit in June, but no other visits are scheduled. If the Aggies were to get in now with an offer, they theoretically have enough time to make an impression and receive some visits to make a run at him.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star Jayden Bradford and Draper (UT) Corner Canyon four-star Isaac Wilson are the other two remaining prospects left uncommitted in the top-25 quarterback rankings.

Bradford, a South Carolina native is favored to commit to the Gamecocks. Wilson, younger brother of New York Jets and former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, is expected to follow in his brother’s footsteps at BYU.

Could the Aggies attempt to flip a top quarterback?

Texas A&M is one of the top schools to make runs at the end of cycles, often flipping a handful of prospects. Last year, in the 2023 cycle, Texas A&M managed to flip four-star Marcel Reed away from Ole Miss just days before signing day.

The same is possible this year. The primary reason for this article is based on missing Air Noland, who the Aggies will certainly not quit recruiting. It appears as of now that Noland and the Buckeyes are a fit for each other, but Jimbo Fisher, Bobby Petrino, and Dameyune Craig will not lay off of him. They will likely pursue him until the end.

Another top flip candidate is Willis (Texas) four-star DJ Lagway, who was atop the Aggies quarterback board before he committed to the Florida Gators. While he is loving the Gators right now, there is no telling what will happen during the season or leading up to signing day.

Another potential flip option is Hutto (Texas) three-star quarterback and current Texas Tech commit Will Hammond. While Hammond is not a blue-chip prospects, he is still a talented in-state prospect the Aggies could try to make a legitimate run at.
