Elite CB Wardell Mack receives strong review from Corey Raymond, sets Florida Gators official visit
After spending all of Saturday in Gainesville, elite cornerback Wardell Mack says he has now scheduled an official visit with the Gators as well.
“I talked to (Billy Napier). We set up the official for the third weekend of June. That will be my first official,” Mack said.
While on campus, Mack was able to dissect the Gators’ style of play and kept close tabs on Corey Raymond as well. Florida is replacing several starters in the secondary and recently signed a handful of blue chippers to assist in the transition.
“I like how detailed the practice was,” said Mack. “You see the work Corey Raymond is putting into the program with the DBs. You can tell the whole team is working; I could see that the whole time.”
As expected, Mack said one of the highlights from today’s visit was having face time with the aforementioned Raymond. He is well aware of his reputation for manufacturing NFL talent and knows there is an incredible opportunity at hand.
“I know a lot about it (Raymond’s resume). I grew up watching it and watching all those guys come up,” Mack said. “He dropped a whole lot of knowledge on my head today. I can tell he’s a great coach just from me being around him.”
A strong message was sent from the Gators’ defensive backs coach as well.
“He just told me I’m going to be the next first rounder he produces,” said Mack.
LSU, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, is the heavy favorite with odds of 98.2 percent. Schools such as Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas and Florida State are in pursuit as well.
“They are in the picture for sure, like, they’re in the race,” Mack said of the Gators.
That return trip to the Swamp on June 16-18 is the lone official visit scheduled. Texas is on the calendar for next Saturday, but that will be an unofficial visit.
