Newsstand: Where Notre Dame draft prospects rank in latest Pro Football Focus top 150

Newsstand: Where Notre Dame draft prospects rank in latest Pro Football Focus top 150

NFL teams’ draft boards are expanding and changing as April 27 draws closer. So are draft analysts’ boards and rankings. The latest version of the Pro Football Focus’ top 150 has two Notre Dame players in it – down from three before.

Tight end Michael Mayer is the No. 28 overall prospect on PFF’s board, compiled by lead draft analyst Mike Renner. He’s the second tight end, behind Utah’s Dalton Kincaid (No. 15).

“Mayer is as polished a tight end as you’ll see in the draft,” Renner wrote. “And he’s only a true junior. He racked up 2,099 yards and 18 scores in his Notre Dame career.”

Mayer posted those numbers – both program records for a tight end – in just 36 career games. He had 67 catches for 809 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2022 and was a consensus All-American.

Defensive end Isaiah Foskey is the No. 62 overall player and the No. 12 EDGE. He had consecutive 11-sack seasons in his final two years with the Irish and was also a consensus All-American in 2022.

“Foskey is one of the better pocket collapsers in the draft class,” Renner wrote. “He used his 34-inch arms to corral quarterback [22] times over the past two seasons.”

The latest update to the top 150 removed safety Brandon Joseph. He was previously the No. 149 overall player on the board. Joseph, a transfer from Northwestern last offseason, had 30 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass breakup in 10 games last year. He had 9 interceptions in his last 19 games with the Wildcats.

Mayer, Foskey, Joseph and offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson are the most likely draft picks from the Irish’s 2023 class.
