Nightly Recruiting Briefing (4/6/23)
In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State offers. We will also discuss a new visitor and other Spartan social media.
MSU offers Philadelphia WR
Michigan State offered class of 2024 wide receiver David Washington Jr. of Philadelphia (PA) St. Joseph’s Prep School on April 6. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver is ranked a three-star, the No. 794 overall recruit, the No. 105 wide receiver, and the No. 23 recruit in Pennsylvania by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.
Washington Jr. holds offers from Penn State, Mississippi, Tennessee, and many more.
Another new 2024 offer
Michigan State running backs coach Effrem Reed extended an offer to class of 2024 running back Peyton Lewis of Salem (VA) High School on April 6. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound back is ranked a four-star, the No. 254 overall recruit, the No. 19 running back, and the No. 4 recruit in Virginia by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.
Lewis holds other offers from Tennessee, South Carolina, Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, and many more.
In-state 2026 visiting
Michigan State will also host class of 2026 in-state recruit Khalief Canty Jr, of Detroit (MI) Cass Tech High School on April 8. The class of 2026 defensive lineman holds offers from Michigan State, Michigan, Kentucky, Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, and more.
Spartan signee talks enrolling
Michigan State signed Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day High School cornerback Eddie Pleasant back in December as a member of its 2023 recruiting class. Pleasant committed to the Spartans on April 17, 2022, a little over a week after his first visit to East Lansing.
“I had never been on a campus that treated me like they did,” Pleasant said. “I felt at home. The guys there felt like they were already my teammates. When I visited a whole bunch of campuses back then, it never felt like that.”
Even after Pleasant committed to Michigan State, the Spartan staff never wavered on their recruitment of the defensive back.
“Even though I was committed they kept recruiting me hard,” Pleasant said. “They knew how it goes with the recruiting process. They kept calling me, FaceTiming me every other day, texting me.”
Michigan State was not the only school contacting Pleasant even after he had committed to the Spartans, as Florida State, among others, had reached out to the three-star prospect. Although Pleasant did take a visit to FSU in the fall, his love for Michigan State also never wavered.
“The reason why Florida State didn’t win out was because they weren’t consistently recruiting me,” Pleasant said. “They stopped doing what they had been doing at first. They made me feel like a top priority and then they stopped. I am all about green. All about (Michigan State) and I will give them 100 percent every day. I am glad I made a great decision with them. I am just grateful.”
