Ole Miss to host two of its biggest 2024 in-state targets on Thursday
Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have been pulling double duty this spring. The 2023 team is in the middle of spring practice, coming off scrimmage No. 1 last weekend. And the staff has been hard at work on the recruiting trail, hosting several notable 2024 and 2025 prospects the last few weeks.
Thursday, the trend continues as four-star Picayune Memorial (Miss.) linebacker Jamonta Waller and three-star Clarksdale (Miss.) cornerback Patrick Broomfield are set to visit campus.
Both Waller and Broomfield have taken previous trips to Oxford earlier this spring. They are making a return trip to take in a spring practice and to meet with new defensive coordinator Pete Golding and the rest of the Rebels’ new-look defensive staff.
Golding is doing everything in his power to keep Waller in state. Alabama and South Carolina are trying to change this, but sources tell OMSpirit he holds the Rebels in high regard early on. Kiffin is also chippin in here as well as is most of the staff.
The 6-foot-1, 230 pound recruit is going to take his visits and check out everyone, including Penn State. But I think Ole Miss gets it done on signing day.
“Their chances were always high but Pete Golding is a great DC,” Waller said. “That puts them pretty high. He said he came to the Sip to get me.”
Waller was a part of a dominating defense for Picayune Memorial which went 15-0 and won the MHSAA 5A state championship. He has a fascinating skill set which pairs nicely with Golding’s 3-4 scheme and the JACK position. As a junior, Jamonta Waller made 106 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and one interception.

Broomfield, a 6-foot-2, 160 pound defensive back, returns and will continue to build his relationship with new position coach Keynodo Hudson. Last month, he got a chance to meet Hudson for the first time and it did not disappoint.
“We talked a lot about me staying in-state,” Broomfield said. “He wants me to come to the Sip and get others to join me in the 2024 class.”
Hudson, who was just hired, made a huge impression on him during their talks.
“He skipped the NFL Combine to see me,” Broomfield said. “He sends guys to the league and had a few dudes there but he opted to stay in Oxford to see me.”
This one appears to be an in-state battle between the Rebels and Mississippi State.

“I want to commit before my senior year.”
He also plans on graduating early and signing in December. As a junior, Broomfield finished with over 60 tackles, three interceptions, one pass break up and one defensive touchdown.
Ole Miss’ 2024 class is currently ranked 19th in the country.
Basha (Ariz.) four-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr., Picayune Memorial (Miss.) three-star running back Chris Davis, Winona Secondary School (Miss.) three-star linebacker Fred Clark, Callaway (Miss.) three-star wide receiver Jeremy Scott, Pascagoula (Miss.) defensive lineman Jeffery Rush and Jones College (Miss.) linebacker Raymond Collins are in the fold.
