Spencer Rattler reveals what area he wants to improve this spring
Spencer Rattler revealed he wanted to improve everything throughout South Carolina’s spring practice going into his final year.
Once a much hyped five-star prospect, Rattler had his ups and downs with Oklahoma and the Gamecocks. But going into his final collegiate campaign, Rattler identified everything he wanted to work on.
If he goes all-in as he says he is, he could be dangerous in 2023.
“Overall just working the pocket,” Rattler said. “Finding different windows to throw in. Really just trying to improve everything honestly. My processing, and yeah a little bit of the run game too. Yeah, everything.”
Last season, Rattler threw for 3,026 yards, 18 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 66.2% completion percentage. In his career with both schools, Rattler has 7,621 yards, 58 touchdowns, 24 interceptions and a 68.4% completion percentage.
“Being a year into it, I feel like we’re very close as a team,” Rattler said of going into Year 2 with South Carolina. “That’s something coach (Shane) Beamer always says is we want to be the closest and most connected team in the country. And you know, all the transfers have been here a year, new guys are coming in, we’re bringing them along, but you know, we’re all gelling more each and every day.
“Practice has been great. A lot more comfortable with everything now. I love the new offense with Coach Dowell (Loggains) and just been enjoying it.”
Not only that, he stepped up as a more vocal leader throughout the early goings of spring practice. It seems like that’s an area where Rattler improved.
“Yeah, it’s just like you said, being a newer guy last year, I just wanted to show my leadership through my work ethic,” Rattler said. “Wasn’t as vocal, was a little bit vocal, but definitely more vocal this year. Just trying to help the guys with a new offense.
“You know us as quarterbacks, we have a little jumpstart on it. We started early on it so we have a good understanding of what the guys are picking up really well. Everybody’s responding well in practice and we’ve been competing and having a great day, really every day, so it’s been great.”
As a member of the Class of 2019, Rattler was a five-star recruit out of Phoenix (Ari.) Pinnacle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the state, the No. 1 quarterback in the class and the No. 15 overall prospect in the class.
