Oregon re-enters top-25 following sweep of Arizona

Oregon re-enters top-25 following sweep of Arizona

Following its weekend sweep of Arizona in Tucson, the Oregon baseball program has re-entered the top-25 after a month-long absence.

D1Baseball released its updated top 25 rankings Monday morning, and the Ducks (18-7, 6-3 Pac-12) landed at No. 25.

They are the lone new entry into the to-25 this week and leapfrogged Iowa.

Oregon is one of three Pac-12 teams that cracked the top-25 this week. Stanford (18-7, 7-2) dropped one spot to No. 8. UCLA (16-8, 6-5) dropped 11 spots to No. 23 and is in the midst of a five-game losing streak.

The Ducks entered the weekend with an opportunity to gain significant ground in the Pac-12 baseball standings against the Wildcats. They did exactly that and notched a 15-3 win on Friday, a 13-11 comeback victory on Saturday, and an 8-5 win to complete the sweep on Sunday.

LSU held strong at No. 1 in the rankings, and Wake Forest, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas rounded out the top five.

During the Arizona series, Oregon hit .420 as a team and outscored the Wildcats 36-19.

Leadoff man Rikuu Nishida led the Ducks at the plate and went 9-for-14 (.643) with two doubles, five RBI, and six runs scored. First baseman Jacob Walsh hit .533 (8-for-15) with three home runs, a double, four RBI, and five runs scored while slugging 1.200.

Shortstop Drew Cowley hit .438 (7-for-16) with two homers, a triple, a double, nine RBI, and five runs while slugging 1.000.

Oregon will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Portland for a non-conference matchup at PK Park at 5:05 p.m. PT.

Then, they will begin a three-game set with rival Oregon State Thursday at 7 p.m. PT.
