PFF Grades for Iowa offense vs. Purdue

The Iowa offense will once again begin the week at the bottom of the national rankings when it comes to total offense. But, they did improve their numbers this past week with 291 yards of total offense.

Most importantly for the Hawkeye offense, the ground game found solid footing with 181 yards rushing. Meanwhile Deacon Hill struggled to connect with his receivers on a regular basis, finishing with 110 yards passing and one touchdown toss to go along with a single interception.

How did the Hawkeyes grade out on the offensive side of the ball according to Pro Football Focus? We will break it all down on a position by position basis.

QUARTERBACK

Deacon Hill – 67.8 overall grade

Analysis – Hill had a pretty decent overall grade, particularly considering he completed only 6 of his 21 of his passes. But, a few of his throws were deemed higher quality and that helped him earn a 67.3 grade as far as passing. Here is a look at some of the other numbers for Hill.

Kept Clean: 3-8 for 37 yards and one touchdown

Under Pressure: 3-13 for 73 yards

Not Blitzed: 2-7 for 31 yards

Blitzed: 4-14 for 79 yards and one touchdown

Play Action: 3-6 for 62 yards and one touchdown

No Play Action: 3-15 for 48 yards

RUNNING BACK

Kaleb Johnson – 66.9 overall grade

Leshon Williams – 60.3 overall grade

Hayden Large – 58.9 overall grade

Analysis – Johnson had the best day of the backs and that was reflected in the grades. He had 134 yards on the ground and averaged 7.9 yards per carry. Williams was also impressive, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Big difference in blocking grade for the two main backs. Johnson had a 14.3 grade and Williams was at 71.8.

WIDE RECEIVER

Diante Vines – 54.0 overall grade

Nico Ragaini – 53.4 overall grade

Seth Anderson – 52.8 overall grade

Analysis – Rough game for the Iowa receiver group. They had zero receptions, which is hard to believe. They were targeted seven times in the game. Anderson probably was closest to a reception and he had the ball go off him and resulted in an interception.

TIGHT END

Erick All – 89.9 overall grade

Steven Stillianos – 60.3 overall grade

Zach Ortwerth – 60.0 overall grade

Johnny Pascuzzi – 51.2 overall grade

Analysis – Hard to imagine any tight end having a better overall grade this week than All. He had five receptions for 97 yards and made several very tough receptions. Stillianos had an excellent run block grade of 69.9 and helped spring the long touchdown run by Kaleb Johnson.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Rusty Feth – 66.6 overall grade

Logan Jones – 65.8 overall grade

Mason Richman – 60.8 overall grade

Gennings Dunker – 59.0 overall grade

Connor Colby – 53.2 overall grade
