Snap Count: Iowa defense vs. Purdue

Bend, but don’t’ break has been the theme of the Iowa defense over the years and that was the case on Saturday. While Purdue was able to move the ball at times, finishing with 343 yards of total offense, they could only muster up 14 points.

Iowa had a season high six sacks in a game, which was double their total for the entire season. They also created two turnovers via interceptions by Cooper DeJean and Jay Higgins.

JOE EVANS – 62 snaps

LOGAN LEE – 61 snaps

MAX LLEWELLYN – 6 snaps

Analysis – Iowa stuck with their main players this week along the defensive line. It was a three man rotation at defensive tackle, so no Jeremiah Pittman. Hopefully Noah Shannon is back soon for depth purposes. Also essentially a three man rotation at defensive end with Llewellyn only getting six snaps.

LINEBACKER

JAY HIGGINS – 84 snaps

NICK JACKSON – 78 snaps

KYLER FISHER – 10 snaps

Analysis – The ultimate iron man this season has been Jay Higgins. He has played a lot of snaps this season and continues to perform at a very high level. Nick Jackson is also high volume and he’s playing really well.

DEFENSIVE BACK

QUINN SCHULTE – 84 snaps

COOPER DEJEAN – 84 snaps

JERMARI HARRIS – 84 snaps

SEBASTIAN CASTRO – 84 snaps

XAVIER NWANKPA – 80 snaps

Analysis – As expected the core starters played every snap in this game. What is interesting is that for the second straight week, Sebastian Castro filtered back to safety when he wasn’t at Cash and it meant Xavier Nwankpa was off the field.
