The Wolfpacker War Room: NC State vs. Marshall visitors and more recruiting intel

Following consecutive Friday night kickoffs, NC State football is back on a regular schedule. That means the program will host a large group of prospects on campus for unofficial visits Saturday, and the coaching staff will be on the road to watch a few key prospects Friday night.

The Wolfpack also picked up commitment No. 20 in the 2024 class from three-star wide receiver Christian Zachary this week. So far this fall, NC State has hosted 2 game weekend official visitors, and both of them committed while still on campus.

This week’s War Room breaks down the visitors list for the Wolfpack’s matchup with Marshall and shares which prospects the coaches will evaluate this week.

Key visitors for NC State vs. Marshall

Commits:

*** Four-star ‘24 wide receiver Jonathan Paylor

*** Three-star ‘24 offensive lineman Robby Martin

*** Three-star ’24  wide receiver Jimmar Boston

*** 2024 kicker Nick Konieczynski

*** Three-star ‘25 tight end Gus Ritchey

Other notable visitors:

*** Three-star ‘24 cornerback Benjamin Black

Per multiple sources, the three-star Rutgers wide receiver commit will visit NC State unofficially Saturday. The senior plays both sides of the ball for Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek High, and the Wolfpack is recruiting him as a cornerback.

Coming out of the spring evaluation period, I heard the Pack thought highly of Black. He committed to Rutgers in June, but now NC State is ramping up its interest once again.

*** Class of 2025 defensive lineman Trajen Odom

Wolfpack defensive line coach Charley Wiles stopped by a Cary (NC) Panther Creek High game earlier this fall to evaluate Odom. The 6-4, 265-pound lineman has the size to play in NC State’s system, and a source indicated that the program is definitely interested in the junior. He does not hold a Wolfpack offer yet, but UNC, Wake Forest, Washington and others have already extended scholarships.

*** Three-star ‘25 defensive lineman Charles House

House already holds offers from Michigan, Georgia, Auburn and others. At 6-3, 285 pounds, he is a star for Charlotte (N.C.) North Mecklenburg High. NC State has not offered him yet, but I would not be shocked to see that change during this visit.

*** Class of 2025 wide receiver Zah Jackson

Jackson is Martin’s teammate at Huntington (W.Va.) High, and he will be in town to watch NC State compete against his hometown team. He holds Power Five offers from the Pack and West Virginia. NC State is recruiting the 5-9 athlete as a wide receiver.

*** Three-star ‘24 cornerback Kelvin Hill Jr.

Hill, a UAB commit who plays for MJ Morris’ alma mater Carrollton (Ga.) High, is set to visit the Wolfpack Saturday. He is the No. 135 cornerback in the nation according to the On3 Industry Ranking at 5-10, 170 pounds.

*** Class of 2026 offensive lineman Zykie Helton

Helton also plays for Carrollton. The sophomore Alabama commit is one of the top interior offensive line prospects in the country. Standing 6-2, 320 pounds, he does not hold an NC State offer yet.

*** Class of 2025 cornerback Cameron Strong

Strong plays for Anderson (S.C.) T L Hanna High. He is from the same city as Wolfpack commit Jimmar Boston and holds early Power Five offers from Duke and West Virginia.

*** Class of 2025 tight end Kaleb Morrow

The 6-7 Apex (N.C.) High tight end is an intriguing local prospect. Charlotte offered him earlier this year. He also visited for the Notre Dame game.

*** Class of 2027 cornerback Marley Vincent

Vincent is a freshman cornerback for Charlotte (N.C.) Chambers High who has the potential to develop into a FBS prospect.

*** Class of 2027 wide receiver Davion Jones

Jones is making plays as a 6-1 freshman wide receiver for West Charlotte (N.C.) High and is a prospect to keep an eye on over the next few years.

Coaches on the road

Wide receivers coach Joker Phillips: Charlotte (N.C.) Chambers High

Chambers is packed with future FBS prospects, including top priority class of 2025 wide receiver Arrion Concepcion. NC State is putting on a full court press early in his recruitment. Junior receiver Jeremiah Harrison and sophomore receiver Tyran Evans are also recruits to watch for potential offers down the road. Evans holds a Florida offer already and stands 6-3 as a sophomore. He visited NC State for the Notre Dame game.

Defensive line coach Charley Wiles: Southern Durham (N.C.) High

Southern Durham High star Isaiah Campbell is one of the Pack’s top priorities in the 2025 class, and Wiles is scheduled to be at his game tonight. The four-star prospect has visited NC State four times this year and has a lot of love for the Wolfpack staff. Showing consistent interest by attending one of Campbell’s games should leave a positive impression.

Head coach Dave Doeren: Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons High

The NCAA visit limit does not apply to Doeren stopping by Cardinal Gibbons because his son Connor plays for the team. He will also have another chance to watch Aidan Smalls, a dynamic sophomore wide receiver who picked up an NC State offer this fall.

Additional NC State recruiting updates

Three-star ‘25 cornerback Tyler Redmond

Redmond dropped a top five schools list this week that included NC State, Ohio State, Tennessee, UCF and Texas A&M. He told TheWolfpacker.com that he plans on committing to a program later this year. The top priority Milton (Ga.) High defensive back also moved his visit date to the Nov. 4 Miami game after originally planning on stopping by for the Clemson contest.

NC State is in consistent communication with the junior, and I get the vibe that the program remains a strong contender here. Redmond also plans on visiting UCF, Ohio State, and Texas A&M again this year, but he does not have visit dates set yet.

Three-star ‘25 cornerback Dylan Lewis

Lewis is high school teammates with Redmond and dropped a top 8 list this week. NC State, Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, UNC, UCF and Kentucky all made the cut. He also wrote “commitment coming soon” in his tweet. Per a source, there is a good chance he visits with Redmond for the Miami game.
