The Latest Intel on Five-Star PF Asa Newell Ahead of His Georgia Official Visit

This is a big visit for the Bulldogs, maybe the biggest one they have on their schedule. Asa Newell is the No. 8 player in the 2024 On3 150 and the No. 1 power forward in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.

The Montverde (FL) Academy five-star has recorded official visits to Indiana, Alabama, Texas, and Gonzaga throughout the process. Georgia football will host Kentucky on Saturday at 5:00 PM EST on ESPN. Small Forward Derrion Reid, a top-20 player in 2024 and a Grovetown, Georgia native, will also be on his official visit.

Newell Intel

Georgia has been the school I have heard about the most with Asa Newell and for the longest. Going into his official visit schedule, one source told me they would be surprised if Newell did not end up a Bulldog. For starters, Newell is originally from Athens, Georgia. Georgia assistant coach Erik Pastrana issued Newell his first offer when he was an assistant at Oklahoma State. Also, Newell’s brother, Jaden Newell, is a redshirt freshman with the Bulldogs. 

There are a lot of things going for Mike White in this recruitment. 

With that said, Newell went through the process. He took visits and kept an open mind. In speaking with a source, the Alabama visit was intriguing for Newell. With the NBA being the end goal, the recent success of guys like Herb Jones and Noah Clowney, I am told, has piqued Newell’s interest. Intel suggests that Albama did a good job of laying out a vision.

This weekend, Georgia is the last scheduled visit for Newell. Heading into the visit, I would still give a slight edge to Georgia. However, know that the NBA aspect of Alabama has at least made Newell think. And Nate Oats has built a reputation as a closer. Mike White will get his chance to shut the door.
