Penn State transfer tracker: How are former Lions faring after five weeks?
Penn State has former players suiting up across college football this fall after they left the Lions via the NCAA transfer portal. Twenty-three are active elsewhere, and the split is fairly close to even when it comes to offense and defense.
Like the Lions, all of these ex-members of the roster are through the September portion of their schedules. How did they perform in the opening month of the year? We have a full rundown below.
Where Penn State transfers will play this fall: Offense
QB Christian Veilleux, Pittsburgh: Despite struggles on the Pitt offense, Veilleux has played in just two games so far this season behind up-and-down starter Phil Jurkovec. He has completed 12 of 27 passes for 145 yards, two interceptions, and a touchdown. However, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday that he will now replace Jurkovec as the starter.
QB Ta’Quan Roberson, UCONN: Roberson lost out on the starting job to Joe Fagano. But, he got it back when the transfer suffered a season-ending injury earlier this year. Over four games, he has completed 70 of 122 passes for 173 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. He does have a rushing score.
QB Micah Bowens, Charlotte: Bowens has yet to play in a game this season.
RB Devyn Ford, Notre Dame: Ford has seen time in all five games this season. But, the former Penn State running back has just four carries for 14 yards. He has also caught two passes for 21 yards.
RB Keyvone Lee, Mississippi State: Lee has three carries for 11 yards over four games.
RB Caziah Holmes, Florida State: There was some preseason buzz about Holmes. But, he has just four carries for 62 yards. He has found the end zone, however.
RB Noah Cain, LSU: Cain has 14 carries for 52 yards and a pair of touchdowns over five games.
WR Jaden Dottin, Toledo: The former Penn State receiver has four catches for 49 yards over five games.
WR Daniel George, Akron: George is No. 2 in yards for the Zips with 167. He has 18 receptions and no touchdowns to date.
WR TJ Jones, UAB: Jones has played in four games so far. He has eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
OL Jimmy Christ, Virginia: Christ has 32 snaps over two games this season.
Where Nittany Lion transfers will play this fall: Defense
DE Rodney McGraw, Louisville: McGraw has played in one game so far. He is occasionally used on special teams, as well. But, he has no counting stats yet.
DE Ken Talley, Michigan State: Talley, who was briefly with Penn State, has played in three games so far. He has one tackle.
DT Fatorma Mulbah, West Virginia: Mulbah has played in every game this season. He has 11 tackles (two for loss) so far.
DT Cole Brevard, Purdue: Brevard, who is a starter for the Big Ten West team after leaving Penn State, has played in all five games. He has two tackles and two quarterback hurries.
DL Joseph Appiah Darkwa, Temple: Darkwa has played in only one game this year. He has two tackles and one sack.
DT Judge Culpepper, Toledo: Perhaps the best former Penn State player suiting up elsewhere, Culpepper has 17 sacks (5.5 for loss) and a team-high five sacks. He has also forced and recovered a fumble.
LB Jamari Buddin, New Mexico State: Buddin has yet to play for the Lobos this season.
LB Lance Dixon, West Virginia: Dixon plays a hybrid defender role for the Mountaineers. He has 12 tackles over five games.
CB Storm Duck, Louisville: Duck was at Penn State for only spring practice before leaving to join the Cardinals. He has eight tackles over four games.
CB Jeffrey Davis Jr., Stony Brook: Davis Jr., has a single tackle over three games.
CB Marquis Wilson, Purdue: Wilson has 20 tackles over five games. He also has a team-high six pass breakups. That is inside the top 20 nationally.
S Tyler Rudolph, UMass: Rudolph has 20 tackles (one for loss), a sack, and an interception over five games. He will play for the Minutemen when they visit Penn State next weekend.
