Florida Gators watching south Florida DBs play Thursday night

The Florida Gators haven’t given up on a top defensive back in south Florida. In fact, they are watching him play Thursday night.

Gators Online has learned that Gators secondary coach Corey Raymond is in Miami to watch 4-star cornerback target Jamari Howard of Miami Norland. Norland is playing Miami Booker T. Washington.

Howard, listed at 6-foot-1.5, 170 pounds, is the No. 15 corner and No. 124 overall recruit nationally for the On3 Industry Rankings. Florida State is the current On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favorite.

Booker T. Washington’s roster includes 4-star 2025 corner and Gators legacy Ben Hanks.

The Gators hope to get an official visit from Howard. If it happens, it likely would take place after the regular season ends.

On3’s Chad Simmons recently reported Florida State is the team to beat for Howard at the moment and the Seminoles are expected to host him at least two more times before the Early Signing Period. Miami is another school in the mix for Howard, a former Michigan State commit.

There hasn’t been a ton of buzz lately regarding Florida in this recruitment.

Florida currently has two corners committed — 4-star Wardell Mack of Louisiana and 3-star Teddy Foster of Florida. Both appear to be solid, but Mack seems likely to take additional visits to other schools.

The Gators also are involved with 5-star Florida State commit Charles Lester, 4-star Alabama commit Jameer Grimsley and 4-star uncommitted target Zay Mincey. They lead for Mincey in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine — and he recently attended the Florida-Tennessee game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Grimsley is expected to visit the Gators in November.
