Miami Hurricanes WR Xavier Restrepo: QB Tyler Van Dyke “has all the confidence in the world” entering Georgia Tech game

It might only be four games into this somewhat young season, but you can go ahead and call this Miami WR Xavier Restrepo’s breakout year. He already has a team-high 355 yards and two TDs. That makes last year when Miami’s leading wide receiver Colbie Young had 367 yards seem like a distant bad memory, right?

Restrepo is also grading out as one of the nation’s top receivers with a 90.3 offense grade.

He plans to keep the strong play going off the bye weekend.

“We were just focusing on us (over the bye),” Restrepo said. “Really focus on us, get better in all aspects on the field, off the field and just try to get back 100 percent healthy.”

Certainly the Miami offense has clicked on all cylinders through these first four games, with QB Tyler Van Dyke averaging 260.5 passing yards per game with 11 TDs and only one interception.

He and Restrepo are roommates and have formed quite the passing tandem on the field.

“He has all the confidence in the world right now, especially in the offensive coordinator and everyone around him,” Restrepo said of Van Dyke.

Restrepo isn’t the only receiver making plays. Jacolby George as 292 yards and four scores, and Young has added 242 yards and three TDs.

They are part of an offense that has players just going about their jobs each and every game.

“It’s very hard to win in college football no matter who you play,” Restrepo said. “We’re just trying to lock in on our opponent.”

That next opponent? That would be Miami’s first ACC foe, 2-3 Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets’ defense is one of the nation’s worst – No. 112 in total defense (427.8 yards allowed per game) and No. 127 in rushing defense (224.2 yards). That led to the team naming a new defensive play caller, Kevin Sherrer, after last weekend’s game.

Regardless of what changes he makes, there should be plenty of opportunities to make some plays … if Miami players remain on point with the gameplan.

“Georgia Tech is a really good team, throw a lot at us, especially with a new defensive coordinator,” Restrepo said. “They are a very, very talented team, play very good football. We have to play our best game.”
