Rocky Top Rewind: Jerome Carvin on Pro day, Vols football spring scrimmage

The Rocky Top Rewind welcomed on former Tennessee offensive lineman Jerome Carvin this and also spoke in detail on Tennessee’s spring football scrimmage and the recruiting weekend on Sunday night.

The Cordova High School standout played well throughout his Volunteer career, putting him into position to be drafted later this month in the NFL Draft. What was the Pro Day like for him, not getting an invitation to compete at the NFL Scouting Combine in February?

“Not getting an invite to the NFL Combine, this day had to be important. This day was the most important thing for me,” Carvin said on the show. “Obviously, I took it very seriously. With that being said, it had to be perfect for me. I had to knock it out of the park in order to get attention from the NFL and GMs and people like that. The day was certainly circled for me and I had a lot of time to prepare and train for it. I’m thankful for that, so I just went out there and did my thing.”

It was also another massive day of recruiting for the Tennessee football team as top-prospects from around the country made their way to Rocky Top to see the Big Orange in pads. Volquest’s Matt Ray believes the day was good for the Vols and it moved the needle with a lot of top-target prospects.

“You’re starting to reap some of those rewards everyone is wanting to see [coming off a big season]. It was kind of slow coming out of January, February dead period and get things rolling in March. Yesterday was big-time guys everywhere you looked. Every kid we talked to was at one point a top-175 guy.

“You had kids in from across the country that were in for 7-on-7s with their teams and kids from across the country that were here because they wanted to see more of Tennessee. I thought, overall, it was a really productive day for Tennessee when you look at some of the guys they had through campus. Some of the big-time guys they were able to get a lot of face time with and show how things work in practice.”

Tennessee baseball’s series down at No. 1 LSU was also discussed, as well as answers to plenty of your questions. The Rocky Top Rewind will not be in action next week, taking the week off for the Easter holiday.
