Michigan State 4-star WR commit Nick Marsh updates recruitment, details Colorado visit

With uncertainty surrounding the Michigan State football program following the firing of head coach Mel Tucker, many of the Spartans’ top commits will be names to watch on the recruiting trail. That includes MSU’s highest-ranked pledge, River Rouge (Mich.) four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is the No. 126 overall prospect and No. 23 WR in the 2024 cycle — per the On3 Industry Ranking. He committed to the in-state Spartans on July 7, but with potential shakeups coming in East Lansing, he’s planning to make the most of his recruitment by getting out to see other programs, which started with a visit to Deion Sanders and Colorado last weekend.

Marsh sat down with On3’s Josh Newberg to detail his time in Boulder, where else he’s hoping to visit this fall, a potential final decision timeline and more.

“As far as right now, i’m still committed (to Michigan State) and we’ve just been taking the process a little bit slow, keeping a little bit of options open just in case coaches leave,” Marsh said. “Just keeping the options open and just preparing for the worst, we’re just looking around…we’ve been taking it pretty lightly.”

Colorado delivered Marsh a “great atmosphere”

Marsh took in Colorado’s 48-41 loss to USC at Folsom Field, and while the Buffaloes lost for the second week in a row, he was able to see and understand what all the hype is about as Sanders hopes to continue his rebuild of the program.

Taking photos and rubbing shoulders with famous athletes and celebrities doesn’t hurt the appeal, either.

“My experience was pretty good, just going down there to a game that had over 7 million viewers was kind of crazy,” Marsh said. “Being on the sidelines, coming into the locker room, the energy, the voices I was hearing, got to see a lot of big time people … It was a great atmosphere. Watching the game, watching them be down and just keep fighting and come back into the game and have a pretty good game was pretty awesome.”

Marsh was also able to speak with Sanders over the weekend and hear Coach Prime’s pitch for why he should consider the Buffaloes. Marsh says he’s trying to set up an official visit with Colorado for sometime in October or November.

“He just says he wants dogs and leaders, he said he watched film, a guy my size, they need more outside receivers, that’s the pitch for a lot of colleges that’s approached me, they need more outside, big guys that can go up and catch the ball,” Marsh said. “That’s the pitch i’m getting from a lot of schools so i’d say that’s the biggest thing.”

There’s no shortage of programs trying to enter the Marsh sweepstakes, even if he’s still committed to Michigan State. The likes of Georgia, UCLA, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Penn State were all mentioned by the blue-chip wideout as schools he’s heard from as of late.

Marsh is hoping to make at least two more visits before coming to a final decision. A visit to Georgia this weekend when the Bulldogs host Kentucky is in the works, though it’s yet to be finalized.

“I’ll try to definitely get out to some of these schools,” Marsh said. “Georgia’s playing Kentucky this week, i’m gonna try to get out to that game. Not too sure yet, but that’s one i’m looking forward to.”

Marsh knows that the clock is ticking on his recruitment with the December signing period looming. While he isn’t sold on decommitting from Michigan State, he’s all ears to try and build rapport with new coaching staffs that have entered the conversation over the past couple of weeks.

“I’m just looking for authentic. I want to build a relationship with these coaches as fast as possible,” Marsh said. “I don’t have too much time left … look for a great school academic wise and just look somewhere where I can build my brand and my NIL somewhere. I think that’s the biggest part.”
