Mater Dei CB Daryus Dixson takes trip to Nebraska for game-day visit
Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei High School is one of the country’s premier high school football programs. Since Matt Rhule came to Lincoln, he’s hosted four Top 100 players from two different classes, including 2025 cornerback Daryus Dixson, this weekend. Dixson said things started fast for him on his trip to Nebraska because he felt the love right off of the plane.
“I felt the love from the coaches, just hopping off the plane,” Dixson told Sean Callahan and Steve Sipple on Recruit Spotlight. “When we pulled up, we saw too many fans. I have never seen this many people in all of my life.”
Dixson has seen his fair share of schools. There are things that he’s looking for during the visits, and they will help schools separate themselves.
“To separate, where I will fit in to the place now, where I could see myself at for the next three to four years, and also where I can feel the environment of the love and the coaches interact with their players.”
A couple of Nebraska coaches have been critical for Dixson regarding the attention he’s received from the Huskers. Those two coaches are his position coach and the defensive coordinator.
“I would say Evan Cooper, the defensive back coach,” Dixson said. “Real cool guy. Coach Tony White, the DC up there, real cool guys. They talked to me to get out here. I’ve liked what I have seen already from some of their defensive plays and their defensive calls.”
Daryus Dixson talked to Brandon Baker about visiting Nebraska
Dixson is the fourth recruit from Mater Dei to visit Nebraska in the last six months or so. He caught up with one of his teammates about what to expect when visiting Nebraska.
“Yes, I did talk to Brandon Baker. He told me a little bit about how they do their things and how I would love the environment; just got to go down there and see the program and the facility now.”
The weekend wasn’t an ideal visit weekend. The Huskers were playing Michigan, the No. 2 rated team in the country. Dixson knows that there are a lot of new faces, and Nebraska will develop a new plan next week.
“It’s a lot of new faces in the program (at Nebraska),” Dixson said. “When they get back to the drawing board and draw up some new things for the next game it would be a great outcome for the next game.”
Dixson had a two-day visit planned for Nebraska. On Sunday, he was scheduled to head back to the stadium so he could get a look around at Nebraska’s facilities.
“They are going to show me a tour of the facility. I did hear they have a new upcoming facility. I will be very welcome to see that. I would say also the school side of things and what they have to offer.”
Dixson is considering some of the nation’s top football programs and says that facilities will factor into his decision.
“Very important,” Dixson said about having new facilities. “Can’t go wrong having new things. You have to take advantage of that.”
