Georgia Freshman Report: Which first year players saw the field vs. Auburn

Georgia Freshman Report: Which first year players saw the field vs. Auburn

A season-low five freshmen saw action in Georgia’s win over Auburn on Saturday. While not too surprising considering the score, it does provide a reminder of where things stand on the depth chart for the Dawgs with how well Kirby Smart and company have recruited during their time in Athens.

# 4 DB AJ Harris – Harris appears on the official participation chart but not the stat sheet. Assuming it’s accurate, it would be the fourth game he’s played so far this season. He did not appear against South Carolina.

# 5 LB Raylen Wilson – Wilson was on Georgia’s kickoff team. He did not record a stat. Since returning from a hyperextended knee suffered in the preseason, Wilson has played in three games. He did not appear against South Carolina.

# 8 DB Joenel Aguero – Aguero, like Wilson, was on Georgia’s kickoff team and did not record a stat. This is Aguero’s fifth game played this season, putting him over the redshirt limit.

# 33 LB CJ Allen – Allen was also on Georgia’s kickoff team but did get in the game on defense early and often. He recorded two tackles, one in the first quarter and another in the third. Both were to stop Jarquez Hunter on rushes. Allen has played in all five games and is over the redshirt limit.

# 91 K Peyton Woodring – Woodring got an opportunity for redemption this week and came up big for the Bulldogs. He made both of his field goal attempts, hitting from 37 yards in the second quarter to tie the game at 10 and from 38 in the fourth to give Georgia its first lead of the game at 20-17.

“Big man. We’ve been putting a lot of pressure on him in practice but I don’t know that simulates it,” Georgia head coach said about Woodring. “There’s nothing that simulates what he had to do today. I told the team after the game, he begs to do the pressure kicks in practice and he made them in the game. I think the kid’s got something special to him.”

Saturday was Georgia’s first of the season with a travel roster limitation. Only 74 players were able to make the trip. Along with the above listed five that saw the field, the following made the trip: Anthony Evans, Lawson Luckie, Pearce Spurlin, Monroe Freeling, Jordan Hall, Damon Wilson, Sam M’Pemba, Daniel Harris and walk-on snapper Will Snellings.
