Inside the ranking: 4-star TE Trey’Dez Green

2024 LSU commit and Zachary (La.) tight end Trey’Dez Green made a huge move up in the latest On3 rankings as he’s off to a massive start to his senior season.

On3 director of scouting Charles Power said Tiger fans should be excited about what Green’s put together. He added weight in the offseason and is moving well with that added mass.

“Has a bounce to his step that he maybe didn’t have quite as consistently as a junior. He’s made some ridiculous catches so far,” Power said. “He’s a guy we’ve always been high on his upside as a big-time mismatch at tight end. He’s around 6-6, 230 pounds and has that above the rim basketball athleticism along with his bulk and ability to box out defenders in the air.”

On3 moved him up from the No. 126 overall prospect in the country to the No. 39 overall prospect. The eighth-ranked tight end is now the No. 3 tight end. He could rise even higher up the ranks.

“We’re starting to see him put it all together early on during his senior season at Zachary,” Power said. “I think his upside is very high. Green’s a guy who if he continues to play this way, it’s not out of the question that he keeps moving up. We’re going to have to go through the rest of the senior season, hope we see him in-person as well. He is extremely gifted physically and is starting to put it all together, which is what you want to see from high upside prospects as seniors.”

When we look back on prospects who’ve done well, senior seasons are the best indicator for that progression to college contributor.

“We like to see them show continued improvement because from my years of doing this, the prospects that tend to be ascending later on in their high school careers usually are the ones who are the best college players and high NFL Draft picks,” Power said.

That’s why Green’s progression is huge for the Tigers. LSU’s inked some top matchup problems at the position.

“I think it’s really encouraging from Trey’Dez,” Power said. “When you look at what LSU is doing at tight end under Brian Kelly, you can look at him in a couple years and they have the most talented tight end room in the country. Trey’Dez Green and Ka’Morreun Pimpton are two major mismatches. I think the prospect of having those two guys in the same room, let alone on the field at the same time, has to be tantalizing for LSU fans.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Green’s now the No. 53 overall prospect and No. 4 tight end in America. He’s also No. 2 in the Louisiana rankings.
