Rusty’s Ramblings: Sunday thoughts on Georgia’s big win over Auburn

Rusty’s Ramblings: Sunday thoughts on Georgia’s big win over Auburn

Georgia found a way on Saturday. It found a way to get itself into a dog fight with Auburn and it found a way to win that fight. The Bulldogs are 5-0 and I’ve got some thoughts on the game below.

*** Big steps forward for this team yesterday, especially on offense and especially Carson Beck. Georgia did what they couldn’t afford to do, turn the ball over and create short-field possessions for Auburn. Credit to the Tigers for capitalizing on those mistakes. Saying that, Georgia did exactly what it needed to do in the second half, after a first play turnover by Oscar Delp and that is move the ball, convert third downs, and put up points.

*** I continue to love what I am seeing out of Dillon Bell at running back. He moves at a different speed and they do a good job of getting him to daylight.

***I liked having Micah Morris in at offensive guard yesterday. I have not watched the replay yet, but both the run game and pass pro were better when he was in the lineup.

***Brock Bowers was a man among boys yesterday and you could almost feel comfortable saying that in a literal sense. I have said it a million times this season, ENJOY HIM in this uniform while you can. He is a once-in-twenty-year type player.

***Having Javon Bullard back yesterday was a big deal, he is such a great football player and has a nose for the ball.

***Georgia had trouble with the quarterback run game and that is something that is correctible. The troubling thing I saw yesterday was the lack of speed on the edge and allowing Auburn to get the corner many times with their run game.

***Listen this team is not as talented as 2021 or 2022 on defense. They simply don’t have the game wreckers up front. They are still pretty good and they can win every game again. This team is not going to dominate people with their front seven this season. That is not going to happen. Saying that, they can scheme things up with the best of them as a coaching staff.

***I think you are going to see more of Sorey on the edge and maybe even some Damon Wilson as the season goes on. You see why UGA is so hard after 5-Techs in this class. It is so important to this defensive scheme on setting the edge against the run.
