4-star WR Ny Carr opens recruitment: ‘It would be an easy rollover’ to Auburn
MOULTRIE, GEORGIA – Auburn wide receiver target Ny Carr from Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County, had a record-breaking night surpassing his school’s record for receiving touchdowns (35). Carr, who has been committed to Georgia for over a year, recently decommitted and re-opened his recruitment. Auburn is a major player, but so are several others.
Carr talked through some of the schools standing out, which included Auburn where he will visit on Saturday for the Tigers’ home matchup with Georgia.
After the Auburn visit, Carr will have a busy schedule.
Carr is the No. 62 overall player in the country, the No. 12 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 11 player in the state of Georgia according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Decommitment, Florida, Florida State, and Miami
Why did Carr decide to decommit from Georgia?
“Really I just felt like I wanted to be in a better spot going into college,” Carr said. “I just wanted to make sure I’m comfortable wherever I go. I just want to know that I am going to get on the field and catch the ball.”
Miami is the other school besides Auburn that Carr has a visit set to so far.
“Miami, I would say is very high on my board right now,” Carr said. “I’m just liking what they’re doing offensively. They’re throwing the ball around and doing it well, they’re winning. As long as they keep doing that. I’ll be there next week against Georgia Tech.”
Florida State, where Carr’s 5-star teammate Landen Thomas is committed, is set to get a visit at some point, too.
“Florida State, I have a visit, it is coming. It is still in the works, too, but it is coming,” Carr said.
Why are the Noles in the mix?
“It’s how they’re spreading the ball around and how they’re winning,” Carr said.
Auburn, Marcus Davis big factors
Carr was on the Auburn target list early in 2023 after a junior day visit in January, then things went quiet for a while. Carr then popped back up at Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend event.
“Actually, Big Cat went well,” Carr said. “We had fun, we did the scavenger hunt, had fun doing that. I got to know a couple of players well, a couple of commits. Trying to build a relationship with everybody.”
Carr was there to see the flip of Perry Thompson from Alabama to Auburn. Now, Thompson is locked in on recruiting Carr to Auburn.
“That’s my boy right there, Perry,” Carr said. “You know he’s going to try to get me to Auburn. He just sends me the eagle, he tells me you need to slide, come flip.”
Auburn receivers coach Marcus Davis is very close with Carr. The two have been building a bond since way before Davis was at Auburn.
“Coach Davis, he’s a Florida boy so he has that energy,” Carr said. “As far as relationship-wise, me and him, we are close. He’s been recruiting me ever since he was at Statesboro, Georgia Southern. He has been recruiting me ever since then. When he got the job at Auburn, he offered me and has been on me since.”
Carr has also been hearing more and more from Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze.
“He’s a great dude,” Carr said. “He is very calm. I like being around Coach Freeze. He doesn’t try to do too much. He puts everything to the players and not just him.”
Without the coaches in the equation, what is it about Auburn that Carr is interested in?
“Really just how the offensive scheme is run,” Carr said. “My sophomore year, the same kind of offense they run, I ran it my sophomore year. I can say I was one of the most explosive receivers in the state that year. It would be an easy rollover. So I like it.”
What is next?
Carr has several official visits in mind. He says Auburn will get one among others.
Besides Auburn, Florida, Florida State, and Miami, there are a few other schools Carr wants to get a look at.
“Penn State, Colorado, Tennessee is still in it,” Carr said.
He is fresh off of a decommitment, but when might a commitment happen?
“It won’t be too long, it will be soon,” Carr said. “I’m just trying to weigh out my options and go see places.”
What is the No. 1 factor in choosing his school this time around?
“Feeling comfortable,” Carr said. “Wherever I go I want to try to make sure I feel at home and be around great coaches that will be dedicated like I am. I just want to go to a school that will put me in that position to dominate.”
