GameQuest: Tennessee eyes first SEC win with South Carolina tonight

Tennessee football is back in action as the South Carolina Gamecocks come to Neyland Stadium tonight for the 7:30 pm eastern time kick on the SEC Network.

Both teams are looking to avoid two early losses in Southeastern Conference play. What are the keys to the game and what must Tennessee do in order to take advantage of the home environment tonight, as the Vols will be donning their black alternate uniforms?

The Series: Tennessee vs. South Carolina

Tennessee has a 28-11-2 record against South Carolina in a series that dates back to 1903. The two teams played just 10 times between 1903 and 1992, but have played every season since then. 

The Vols won 12 straight between 1993 and 2004. The Gamecocks have won nine times since 2005, including three straight from 2010-12 and 2016-18. 

Tennessee beat South Carolina 45-20 the last time the Gamecocks came to Knoxville, in October 2021 in Year 1 under Josh Heupel. The Vols won 41-21 in 2019. They opened the COVID-shortened season with a 31-27 win at South Carolina in 2020 and lost in Columbia last November.
