Penn State coaches on the road on Friday
Penn State will have an early kickoff on Saturday in Evanston against Northwestern, but Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin is out and about on Friday on the recruiting trail. The program has had unusual success in the Midwest in the Class of 2024, namely in Wisconsin.
Coming from Chicago, Franklin will drop in on all three Penn State commitments in the Badger State on Friday. At Arrowhead, offensive tackle commit Garrett Sexton has already paid and accepted into Penn State, so the head coach is allowed to meet with him in person. He’ll do so on Friday and look on as the Warhawks, ranked No. 8 in Division 1 in the Wissports.net football coaches poll at 4-2, host No. 2 Muskego, who are 6-0 this season.
The 6-foot-6.5, 265-pound Sexton has been an outlier in the Class of 2024 rankings with On3. He’s a three-star prospect everywhere else, but Sexton checks in as the No. 46 prospect nationally according to On3.
“Garrett Sexton has some of the highest upside of any player in this year’s group,” said On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power. “As I was going through and watching offensive tackles, I think his upside at not just offensive tackle, not just in Penn State’s class but nationally, it stands out. Everything we know about him points to his potential being incredibly high. Everything we know about him points to his potential being incredibly high.
Franklin also dropping in on teammates committed to Penn State
Franklin will be able to stop by the school of Catholic Memorial teammates Corey Smith and Donovan Harbour before the Crusaders travel to Pius X. Harbour was banged up early in the year, but he’s returned to the lineup for his team’s four-game winning streak. Catholic Memorial is now 4-2 on the year and ranked No. 1 in Division 4.
Smith has been out most of the season with an unspecified injury and he’s not expected to play on Friday night. Last season, Smith carried the ball 146 times for 1,209 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also added 22 receptions for 341 yards and two more scores as a receiver, leading Catholic Memorial to a 13-1 record.
