Tennessee lands first commitment of the 2024 recruiting class in four-star Bishop Boswell

Tennessee picked up its first commitment in the 2024 class today, landing four-star point guard Bishop Boswell.

Boswell (6-foot-4, 195 pounds) is a consensus top-75 player from Meyers Park High School in North Carolina. On3 rates Boswell as No. 61 overall player in the nation and the No. 9 point guard. He has an on3 industry consensus ranking of No. 64 nationally in the 2024 class.

Boswell made an official visit to Knoxville on the weekend of Sept. 15, and clearly the Vols made an impression.

“I would say they made a really good impression on me,” Boswell said of his takeaways following his visit. “They’ve got a legendary head coach and I really like the staff.

“You can tell that the coaches really care about the guys. They obviously want them to get better as players, but everyone, coaches and players, are tight off the court as well.”

Boswell chose Tennessee after also making official visits to Wake Forest, Missouri, Xavier and Georgia.

Many thought that Tennessee was too late to the race when the Vols didn’t extend an offer until the July evaluation period, but Rick Barnes and associate head coach Justin Gainey helped the staff quickly make up ground.

In the end, it sounds like it was Boswell’s relationship and desire to play for Barnes that pushed Tennessee over the top.

“I chose Tennessee because of the winning culture that the program has and coach Barnes has had over his career,” Boswell said to On3. “As well as the relationship coach has with his players to love them while also getting the best out of them and developing them on the court.

“I also how passionate the fans and teachers are about their student-athletes.”

Boswell has a track record as a winner after leading his Myers Park team to a state title as a junior. That was something that clearly appeared to Tennessee as well as his all-around game.

A capable distributor, Boswell is also an effective scorer at all three levels. Boswell is a former standout football player, and he doesn’t shy away from physicality on the hardwood.

“The way I would describe my game is a physical, paint touch point guard who can pass at a high level, defend and knock down shots,” Boswell told on3.

“You’re getting a player who’s going to do everything he can night in and night out to win as many games as possible and as many championships as possible.”
