Ole Miss offers 2027 quarterback Champ Smith
Ole Miss and assistant quarterback coach Cameron Aiken extended an offer to 2027 Jupiter Christian School (Fla.) quarterback Champ Smith on Wednesday. The freshman quarterback from the Sunshine State has also been offered by Charlotte, Maryland and Western Kentucky.
As an eighth grader, Smith threw for 1,300 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2022. This season, the 6-foot, 170 pound prospect is off to a hot start. He opened his 2023 season with four touchdown passes and eclipsed 300 yards passing in Jupiter Christian School’s third game, going 22-for-40 through the air with three more touchdown tosses.
He obviously has several cycles to go before he has to even think about a top schools list or a decision, but Power 5 programs are already taking notice. Last week, he was in Athens, Ga., to see the Georgia Bulldogs in person. He got to meet offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and offensive analyst Brandon Streeter.
Champ Smith is an impressive prospect regardless of age.
And it’s not just on the football field. Smith is a four-sport athlete, competing in baseball, basketball, golf and football for JCS. But quarterback might be where he finds his future. Chinstrap Sports certainly thinks so.
“Champ Smith has a high football IQ with a quick release and pinpoint accuracy,” Chinstrap Sports said. “Smith has a great feel for the game at such a young age with the rare ability to change the arc and pace of a pass depending on the situation.
“Sound lower body mechanics with feet alignment,” Chinstrap Sports said. “Smith is deadly in the middle of the field, throwing daggers, curls and seam routes with elite touch on the deep ball. While working under retired NFL coach David Lee, Champ has developed a strong fundamental foundation.”
