The freshmen report: Who is making an immediate impact, redshirt candidates

Auburn ended its 2023 recruiting class with a bang flipping several recruits from different recruiting rivals. After 1 quarter of the season, how are each of Auburn’s 2023 signees, now freshmen, performing? How many will redshirt? At this point, if they are under two game appearances, we are adding them to the redshirt candidate category.

Also, get caught up on freshmen statistics here as well. Looking back on game participation reports (that are available), this is our calculation of the freshmen so far.

Non-redshirt players

CB, Kayin Lee – Lee was thrown into the fire when the season began as veteran corner Nehemiah Pritchett was out for the firs three games. Lee filled in and has played many snaps. He has now burned his redshirt after playing a key role, and starting, in the first four games. Lee has 10 tackles, 3 pass break ups, and a forced fumble.

DL, Keldric Faulk – Faulk has played in the rotation in all four games so far this season. He has continuously earned praise from coaches as his role continues to increase. He has even gotten some attention from the national media. Faulk has now burned his redshirt. He has 10 tackles and one pass break up.

RB, Jeremiah Cobb – Cobb is currently serving as a reserve running back who has gotten a touch in each game this season. He only got one touch against Texas A&M, but his role is expected to remain, especially with an injury to Damari Alston. Cobb has 13 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown. He also has 3 catches for 18 yards.

C – Connor Lew – Lew has appeared in at least three games so far this season. He did play against Texas &M and Cal, so he is not a candidate to redshirt. Lew has not started a game but continues to push Avery Jones at the center position.

Played more than one game

S, Terrance Love – Love has appeared in three games as a backup safety and has contributed on special teams. He more than likely will not redshirt as he seems to have a role on special teams. He has 6 tackles this season.

S, Sylvester Smith – Smith has worked in as a backup nickel. With injuries to Keionte Scott and Donovan Kaufman at times, Smith is one step away from playing more. He has appeared in two games against Samford and UMass. Smith has 2 tackles and 2 pass breakups.

OT, Tyler Johnson – Johnson made an appearance in the opener against UMass and against Samford. He is a redshirt candidate as he works behind the starting tackles and not expected to play a key role this season.

CB, JC Hart – Hart made an appearance in the Samford game and in the UMass game. He is a candidate for redshirt.

Redshirt candidates

QB, Hank Brown – Brown has yet to play in a game. Barring any injuries, Brown is not expected to play in more than four games. All three quarterbacks have played and Brown has not. He is not likely to appear in more than 4 games.

JACK, Brenton Williams – Williams has appeared in one game, but is not expected to play a significant role at this time. He is a redshirt candidate.

CB, Colton Hood – Hood has not yet appeared in a game, but it would not be shocking if he started to play special teams at some point. For now, he is a redshirt candidate.

CB, Tyler Scott – Scott has appeared in one game so far. He is not expected to play a significant role moving forward. He is a redshirt candidate.

OL – Dylan Senda – Senda has appeared in one game so far.

DL, Darron Reed – Reed has not yet appeared in a game and was battling a minor injury during fall camp.

S, CJ Johnson – Johnson has not yet appeared in a game.

DL, Wilky Denaud – Denaud has not yet appeared in a game.

OL, Bradyn Joiner – Joiner has not yet appeared in a game.

DL, Stephen Johnson – Johnson has not yet appeared in a game.

OL – Clay Wedin – Wedin has not yet appeared in a game.
