Deion Sanders proud of Colorado players for not quitting vs. Oregon

Deion Sanders proud of Colorado players for not quitting vs. Oregon

Colorado found itself in a new position this season at halftime against Oregon on Saturday. The Buffaloes were being blown out by a score of 35-0 at the half. However, head coach Deion Sanders did like something that he saw from his team. He liked that they didn’t quit.

After watching the film, Sanders explained that he was proud of the team and that several players showed up positively in film study.

“Quite a few of them did,” Deion Sanders said. “I don’t think we had anybody who just shut it down and quit. The effort might have not been 100 percent, 110 percent, like we require but I don’t think any of them shut it down, and I’m proud of them.”

Most of Oregon’s scoring came in the first half. In a game the Ducks won 42-6, Oregon only scored once in the second half. That’s also when Colorado scored, well after the Buffaloes realistically could have made a comeback.

The loss was Colorado’s first of the season, dropping the Buffaloes to 3-1. As Deion Sanders went on to explain, neither he nor the team is satisfied with that record or the most recent result.

“You’ve got to understand that for some people they have a disdain for what we are and what transpired. To be 3-1 and not satisfied, don’t that say a lot about this program? You’re 3-1 and you’re not satisfied and you know you can do better. So, I’m happy with that understanding and that change of the thought process of this program, and I love where we’re headed.”

Next Saturday, Colorado will be tested again when the Buffaloes host the USC Trojans.

Deion Sanders on how Cormani McClain can earn playing time

Defensive back Cormani McClain was one of the top recruits in the Class of 2023 and his decision to go to play for Deion Sanders and Colorado made headlines. However, he really hasn’t made an impact on the field to this point, even amid the injury to two-way star Travis Hunter.

“Study, prepare. Study, prepare, be on time for meetings. Show up to the darned meetings. Understand what we’re doing as a scheme. Want to play this game. Desire to play this game. Desire to be the best in this game at practice, in the film room and on your own free time,” Sanders said.

“You do know that I check film time for each player upon the week. Thursday I need film times from the whole staff so I can see who’s been preparing. And that’s just not about Cormani, that’s about a multitude of individuals. So if I don’t see that, you would be a fool to put somebody out there unprepared. Can’t do it. Won’t do it. Can’t do it. I’m old school, I’m sorry.”
